Obituary Alexander Orr, of the Brunswick Hotel, Wingham died July 1908Wingham Times, July 23, 1908, pg 1, col 5DEATH OF MR. ORRMr. Alex. Orr for the past five years landlord at the Motel Brunswick, passed away early Wednesday morning, in his 52nd year. Mr. Orr had been in poor health for some weeks, and his illness took a serious turn ten days ago. The trouble developed into cancer of the bowels and he underwent an operation on Tuesday in a last hope of saving his life. Deceased spent his early life near Chatham and over thirty years ago moved onto a farm near Manchester. Twenty-eight years ago he purchased a livery business at Blyth, where he remained for a few years and then purchased the Park House. From here he went to a Gorrie Hotel, then to Fordwich and five years ago purchased the Hotel Brunswick. He leaves a widow and family of two sons and three daughters. The children are: -William, of Portage la Prairie, Man., Orvie, and Misses Mabel, Mattie and Nellie at home. The bereaved family will have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their affliction. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon; interment in Teeswater cemetery. Wingham Advance, July 30, 1908, pg 1, col 4The funeral of the late Alex. Orr took place on Saturday to Teeswater cemetery. His eldest son, Will., arrived from Portage la Prairie, on Friday, so that all the family were present. The casket was a handsome one, and many floral tributes indicate sympathy for the bereaved relatives. One of these was a very pretty, "Gates Ajar", the gift of the business men of Wingham.During the service, the business-men pulled down their blinds. The aged father, and two brothers from Chatham, were present at the funeral. The deceased was in his fifty-second year. Mr. Tull, now in charge of St. Paul's, conducted the service. Mrs. Orr and family desire to express their thanks to the citizens of Wingham, for the kindness shown to them during the severe trial and bereavement through which they have recently passed. Goderich Star, Friday, July 31, 1908ALEX. ORR, of the Brunswick Hotel, Wingham, died last week in his 55th year. He had not been in good health for some time past, but for the past two weeks, he had been much worse. An operation was performed and it was found that cancer had so taken hold of the bowels that death was inevitable. He never rallied from the operation.Mr. Orr was widely known in this section of the county having lived in Belmore, Blyth, Fordwell and Wingham. He came to Wingham for the second time, about seven years ago, and had recently fitted up the Brunswick with the latest conveniences. He leaves a wife, two sons and three daughters. William of Portage la Prairie; Ollie at home, of the sons. The daughters: the misses Mabel, Mattie and Nellie are also at home.
