Obituary of Thomas Scott Hamilton of Goderich died January 1940

GODERICH SIGNAL STAR - January 18, 1940

Death of Thomas Hamilton - Another resident of the village, in the person of Thomas Scott Hamilton, passed away at his home on Sunday morning. Death came as the result of pneumonia, which Mr. Hamilton contracted about a week ago. He had been very badly crippled for fifteen years, having fallen off a barn in 1924. Mr. Hamilton has been a constant resident of this district.

He was the son of the late Thomas Hamilton and Jane McCann and was born on the 8th concession of Colborne township in September 1862. He farmed all his life in Colborne until moving to Auburn thirteen years ago. The deceased was unmarried and is survived by three brothers and three sisters: George of Auburn; David of West Wawanosh; Joseph V.S. of Dungannon; Mrs A.J. Goldthorpe (Emma) of Goderich; Mrs. Samuel H. Johnston (Millie) of West Wawanosh; Mrs. John J. Robertson (Lena) of Colborne.

One brother and three sisters predeceased him: Dr. Benson Hamilton of Moose Factory; Mrs. James H. Johnston (Grace), Mrs William Plunkett (Mary) and Mrs. Richard Sprung (Elizabeth), all of Auburn. the funeral took place from Knox United church of which deceased was a member, on Tuesday afternoon. Rev. H.C. Wilson conducted the service. Mrs. Fred Plaetzer, a niece sang a solo. Among the beautiful floral tributes were those contributed by Mr. andMrs. Albert Goldthorpe, Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Robertson, Mr. and Mrs. D.H. Hamilton and family, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hamilton, Mr. and Mrs. S.H. Johnston, Mac, Johnnie, Allan and Florence Wilson. The casket was borne to its last resting place in Maitland Cemetery, Goderich by six nephews, alter Hamilton, Lucknow; Thos. Hamilton, Goderich; Ben Johnston, Ben Goldthorpe, Reg Hamilton, and Wilfred Plunkett.
