Obituary Maria Dunlop Crawford & Jane Dunlop Orr October 1899

Obituary, Signal, Oct 26, 1899

Two Sisters Deceased-It is our duty this week to record the peculiarly sad occurrence of the death of two sisters-Mrs. Crawford and Mrs. David Orr-on two consecutive days last week. Maria Dunlop, wife of Hugh Crawford, Cambridge street, passed away on Friday, the 20th, after an illness of about two months. The deceased was fifty-seven years of age and leaves her husband, two daughters (Mrs. Wm. Robertson of Port Huron and Miss Crawford at home) and one son, William, who is away from home, to mourn the loss of wife and mother. The remains were interred in Maitland cemetery on Sunday afternoon. In the absence of Rev. Jas. A. Anderson, Rev. S. M. Whaley, of St. Helens conducted the services and the pall-bearers were Mayor Thompson, P. McEwan, G.W. Thomson, W.A. Ross, H. Hale and John Butler. Mr and Mrs. Wm. Robertson, of Port Huron were present at the funeral.

The death of Jane Dunlop, wife of David Orr, occurred on Saturday at their home in Goderich township. She had been making preparations to come into town to attend to her sick sister, but was stricken with paralysis on Friday morning, the 13th last, and never recovered. The vital spark was extinguished on Saturday evening last, the day following her sister's death. Mr. and Mrs. Orr were married nearly eighteen years ago and had lived ever since on their farm on the third concession of Goderich township. Three boys, the eldest of whom is sixteen years of age, are left without a mother's care. Mrs. Orr was a member of Union Church from early years and a member of the missionary auxiliary of the church since it was started. She was in the forty-sixth year of her age. The funeral took place to Maitland cemetery on Monday afternoon. Rev. James Hamilton, pastor of Union church, performed the ceremonies and James McCluskey, Robert Davidson, Geo. Davidson and G.K. Johnston acted as pall-bearers. Rev. James Orr, of Mono Mills, brother of the bereaved husband and Mr. and Mrs. Robertson of Port Huron were among those who paid their last respects to the departed. The remaining members of the Dunlop family are: Hugh, of Oxford street, Goderich; John, of Goderich township; James of Sarnia and Mrs. Scott, of Minneapolis. To all the doubly bereaved relatives we extend sympathy and condolences.
