Dec.12,p.:Rev. Alexander Lewis - It is with profound regret that we record, in this number of the Sun, the death of Rev. Alexander Lewis, of Mono Mills, which sad event took place at his residence in that village, last Thursday afternoon. The deceased was born in Ahory, County Armagh, Ireland, in 1788. He emigrated to this country about the year 1813, and was ordained a minister of the Church of Scotland in Nova Scotia, in 1818, and inducted to the charged of the mission at Mono Mills, in the year of McKenzie's Rebellion, 1837, where he continued his pastoral services till a few years ago, when old age, and the feebleness it brings with it, caused him to rest from the active labors of a useful and well spent life. He was a genial, true-hearted Irishman, who had a smile for everybody, a cheerful word for the disconsolate, and something always for the poor. He was esteemed not alone by his parishioners, but by all who knew him, for his many excellent qualities of head and heart. His sermons were not like the cold, flippant preaching of today; they were couched in the simple, tender language of the heart, and were rendered with a pathos and earnestness that could not fail to touch the troubled soul, so that many who attended his meetings through idle curiosity were induced to kneel down and pray. We regret the death of Rev. Mr. Lewis, and sympathize with the many mourning friends he has left behind; but having reached his 90th year, the end could not be far off. His life was peace, and he passed from earth as quietly and calmly as sets the sun mid summer's golden clouds.
