April 21, p. 1:Hugh Anthony - On Thursday afternoon, April 14th, Mr. Hugh Anthony , of Huttonville, died at his home after a short illness. He was about his business as usual until Monday night when he was taken ill and passed away about three o'clock on Thursday afternoon. Mar Anthony was born at lot 10, 4th line, living in that neighborhood all his life He was a successful farmer and was for eight or ten years a member of the township council. A few months ago he started a general store in Huttonville and was conducting a nice business there. He is survived by a widow, one son and five daughters. The latter are Mrs. J. Trimble, Mono; Mrs. M. Hall, Alton; Mrs. Robt. Copeland, Toronto; Mrs. Blake Fuller, Chinguacousy and one unmarred at home. Mr. E.L. Anthony, of the 5th line, is the only son. The funeral took place to the 4th line cemetery on Saturday afternoon, the service being conducted by the rev. J. Thompson, of Cheltenham and the rev. Herbert Lee, of Huttonville.
April 21, p.:James Speers - Having reached the age of 94 years the oldest resident of the county, and one of its pioneers passed away at Caledon on Sunday of this week, in the person of James Speers, lot 16, 4th line, Caledon. Mr. Speers came to Canada from Ireland while quite young and assisted in removing the forest of Caledon. During his long and useful life, he witnessed many changes and saw the wilderness transformed into smiling and profitable farms, villages and towns. His wife died some four years ago. Six sons and four daughters survive him. The former are Thomas, of Mono; Samuel and Archie, of Toronto; James John and Alex, of Caledon, and the daughters are Mrs. D. McQuarrie, in the North West; Mrs. Irwin Wilson, Mrs. George Wilson and Mrs. Wm. Wilson, all residents in the county. Mr. Speers was a staunch Old Tory and was a member of the Presbyterian church. He was known to all as a very honest, upright, successful man; generous and kindly and obliging neighbor, who was at all times ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. About three weeks ago suffered from a stroke of paralysis from which it was at first thought he would recover. Up to that time he was quite active, his eyesight and hearing were very good and he made frequent trips to Orangeville and other places. The funeral took place on Tuesday to the fourth line cemetery and was largely attended. His six sons were his pallbearers. The Rev. Hugh Matheson conducted the service.
