Eugene Leo Maxey, 93, passed from this life Wednesday, May 31, 2006, to join his wife Gladys who has been waiting in heaven with their heavenly father. He was born December 17, 1912 to John Henry and Carrie Steves Maxey at Wanette, OK. He graduated from Central H.S. in Oklahoma City in 1930 and attended Oklahoma City University and Central State University. He then spent several years with his father operating Maxey Dairy. In 1932 the dairy was moved to Harrah, OK where he has made his home since that time. He and Gladys Jones met as children at Star School in Okla. City and were married Dec. 3, 1933. When the dairy closed at the end of WWII, part of the land was developed and he built most of the houses that are still on Maxey Dr. west of Harrah. "Gene" was employed by OG&E, Gooch Feed Co., raised broiler hens, built and operated a gas station and grocery and retired in 1980 as Ass't. Oklahoma County Assessor. In 1943 he became a Christian and has served at First Baptist Church, Harrah, as Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon. He was building superintendent of the sanctuary and the education building. He served two terms on the Harrah Board of Education and was active in the Lions Club.

Preceded in death by his parents, and wife Gladys. He is survived by one brother, Vernon of El Paso, TX; one daughter, Eugenia and husband Wayne Wiegert; one son, Robert Maxey and wife, Juanita all of Harrah; grandchildren: Paul Wiegert and wife, Lou Ann, Terri Wiegert Ward, David Wiegert and wife, Carrie, Jon Mark Wiegert, Robin Gene Maxey and wife, Keely, Russell Maxey and wife, Robin Lynn, and Randall Maxey and wife, Tierra; 14 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 5, 2006 at First Baptist Church, Harrah with burial in Arlington Memory Gardens, Midwest City.
