Saturday, June 17

Mary Ann Kelley, 73, of Belton, Texas died peacefully, after a long battle with heart disease, surrounded by her loving family, at her home in Belton, Texas on Saturday, 17 June 2017. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Temple, TX

Mary Ann was born on 31 August 1943 in Oklahoma City, OK to Andy Russell Vaught and Lois (Whitehead) Vaught. She graduated from Wichita Falls, TX High School in 1961 and married Oliver Kelley on 7 October, 1961. From 1966 through 1986 she was a military spouse, living on three continents during that time. She graduated with a BA in English from Cameron University, Lawton, OK in 1978, but her heart belonged to the University of Texas at Austin. She had a long career with Central Texas College/American Preparatory Institute. In 1994 she was an integral part of her husband’s successful campaign for District Judge of the 169th District Court in Bell County, TX. She was passionate about her work in the Episcopal Church, and as a lay minister. From 1995 to 2001, she served as an elected member of the Board of Trustees of Central Texas College. In 1999, she was named a Yellow Rose of Texas by Governor George W. Bush. She will be remembered for her grace and courage during her lengthy illness, her love for entertaining, her wit, and style.

Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Chris Kelley Rosenberg of Belton, TX, her son, Andrew Oliver Kelley and his wife, Audra Rodriguez Kelley, of Austin, TX, her granddaughter, Maria Pilar Kelley, and grandsons Zachary and Kiah Kelley. She was preceded in death by her husband Oliver Kelley, her father, Andy Russell Vaught, and her mother Lois (Whitehead) Vaught.

A private funeral took place on Wednesday, 21 June, 2017 in Dallas, TX, followed immediately by interment at Sparkman-Hillcrest Cemetery in Dallas, TX. A traditional Irish wake/ celebration of life will be held in her honor on 9 July 2017 at 12:00 noon at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, located at 2203 Red Rock Drive, Belton, TX 76513. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to: The Judge Oliver and Mary Ann Kelley Memorial Scholarship at Central Texas College....
