FUQUAY Willene Short Fuquay, 95, died at 7:05 am on Monday, January 05 2009. Through-out her long life, Willene touched the lives and hearts of many as she shared their joys and sorrows and encouraged them to experience the good and the beautiful around them. She was born in Mangum OK, and was the second of three daughters born to W. T. and Clara Short. When Willene was two, the family moved to Shawnee, where Professor Short taught mathematics at Oklahoma Baptist University until his death. She graduated from OBU in 1934 with a Bachelors in Biology. She also held a Masters degree in Art Education from OU (1937) and a Masters degree in Religious Education from South-western Baptist Theological Seminary (1940).

She married Murray Fuquay on Au-gust 2, 1939, and they remained life partners until he died in 1994. In Spring 1945 Willene and Murray moved to Midwest City, where he served as pastor of the First Baptist Church for 25 years. She took seriously her calling as a pastor's wife. She loved serving her church, and was still teaching a Sunday School Class well after her 90th birthday. She found joy in doing for others. As a teacher and caring friend, she brought happiness and inspiration to the lives of many. In addition to leadership in many church activities, she was active in the Premier Book Club, MidDel Art Guild, the No. 1 Study Club of Mid-west City, and water exercise telling.

She is survived by her daughter D'Ann Fuquay, Grand Junction CO, her son Bob Fuquay, St Louis MO, and two granddaughters Amy Fuquay and Kati Fuquay of St Louis MO, and a great-grandson Jesse Fuquay.

She surrounded family and friends with love, beauty, and order. Those who knew her will cherish their memory of her faith, her spirit of caring and sharing, and her positive attitude. The family will receive friends from 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Tuesday at Candlewood Chapel.
