August 29, 2010

Mark Wayne Freeman, 46, of Oklahoma City, passed away August 29, 2010 at his home. He was born June 2, 1964 to Gary and Marie (Collins) Freeman at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland.

He is survived by his children, Ann Marie and Anthony Wayne Freeman; Father, Gary Wayne Freeman; Step-mother, Joy Freeman; Sisters, Shelly Freeman and Renee Freeman; expected granddaughter, Juliana Marie Canton and extended family, a host of friends, and co-workers. He enjoyed watching football and basketball and the all seasons of “Friends” with Anthony, and often thought of themselves as “Joey” and “Chandler.” Mark and his sister, Shelly, had a very special and unique relationship- If one was present the other wasn’t too far behind. They were consistently there for one another. Mark was also an avid reader of Science Fiction/Fantasy novels, one of the few things that he shared with his sister, Renee. It was not unusual for them to hit the book store together. Mark was in the military for 24 years and 5 months, and was the Section Chief of the Combat Readiness Center. He was responsible for squadron mobility, ancillary training, material control and maintenance control.

His Military Honors include: Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, Air Force Achievement Medal, AF Outstanding Unit Award with 2 oak leaf clusters, AF Organizational Excellence Award with 1 oak leaf cluster, AF Good Conduct Medal with 7 oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with 1 service star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, AF Overseas Ribbon Short, AF Overseas Ribbon Long, AF Longevity Service with 5 oak leaf clusters, USAF NCO PME Graduate Ribbon with 2 oak leaf clusters, AF Training Ribbon.

In lieu of flowers, at family’s request, please send memorial donations to the Mark Freeman Fund at Bank of America. His funeral service will be held 1pm, Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at the Tinker Air Force Base Chapel with burial to follow at Kolb Cemetery under the direction of Ford Funeral Service.
