Mell Nevelle Walker, 86, of Choctaw was born April 7, 1920, in Weatherford, Texas. He was the son of Ab S. and Maggie Burthrie (Robbinson) Walker. He left this life Aug. 9, 2006, in Midwest City. Mell served over 23 years in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired from the military on Oct. 22, 1960 as a Sergeant First Class. He worked as a maintenance technician for the Choctaw-Nicoma Park Schools until his retirement in July, 1985. Mell was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the VFW, NRA and the First Baptist Church in Choctaw. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing and bird hunting.

Mell was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; one brother; and a nephew.

He is survived by his wife, Hilda Buss Walker, Choctaw; two sons one daughter-in-law, Marvin and Diana Youngblood, Del City; Jesse Youngblood, Choctaw; one daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Gordon Heller, Choctaw; two nieces, Donnell Doss, Weatherford, Texas and Rilda Horner, Yantis, Texas; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, at the First Baptist Church in Choctaw. Dr. Ray Sikes, Rev. Toby Youngblood and Rev. Gerald Lunsford officiated. Interment followed at Elmwood Cemetery, Choctaw. Services were under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service in Harrah.
