Helen Maurene Holt, formerly of Midwest City, passed away at 1:50 p.m. May 23, 2007. She was born Oct. 15, 1916 to Thomas and Edith Slack of Kingfisher. She graduated from Kingfisher High School and earned a business degree while working in the county courthouse. While there, she met and married her husband of 54 years, Norman Cortez Holt, an Oklahoma Highway Patrolman, later chief of patrol. Moving to Midwest City, the couple joined The First Christian Church where Maurene was the organist for many years. Living there she won many prizes for her flowers. Each year Maurene held back-to-school parties for all the elementary school students on her block. A mother, Christian, fan of OU football, traveler, musician, horticulturist, art lover, master cook, fisherman, seamstress, lover of children, implementer of family values, she will be fondly remembered. 

Holt was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Ellen and husband Norman and two brothers, Thomas and William. 

She is survived by a brother, Marion Slack of Minnesota; a son, John Holt of McLoud, and a daughter, Madalynne Chapman of San Francisco. Funeral services were 10 a.m. May 26, 2007 at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial to follow at Arlington Memory Gardens. Funeral services were under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Northeast Funeral Home.
