Think About it...

By Curt Donley

The Woodward County Democrats met in force last Saturday and had an opportunity to express their opinions as to who they liked best. It was a good turn out and that's great.

Carter seemed to be their overwhelming choice. Carter says what this country has is an economic liquidity problem. I really don't know much about economics. To me liquidity problem is, when the copper water line going to your ice maker breaks.

This happened at our house not long back, and believe me when Nancy and I got home we certainly had liquidity problems.

That was just the begining of our troubles. Two days after that we got our electric bill. When you live in a total electric home, at the end of each month you get a bill that is "totally electifying."

We made some adjustments in our ways of living after that bill came. The first thing we did was lower the thermostat again. I won't say how could it is but the other morning when I got up it was so cold in our living room I saw a cockroach pushing a termite trying to get him started.

I guess I had better stop complaining about inflation. Today's prices could be worse. That could be tomorrow's prices!

Electricity isn't the only thing that's destroying my financial stability. Have you bought groceries lately???

But let's be fair about this. A lot of people think that if you own a grocery store, at today's prices you're rolling in money. They don't realize how quickly those profits are eaten up by Cadillacs, swimming pools, and mink coats.

When times are hard, yankee enginuity. becomes very evident. Many people have turned to what is called "Modern merchandizing is when you hear somebody saying: "What do you mean you're all out of cigarettes, eggs and cheese? What kind of gas station is this anyway?"

Groceries and gasoline aren't the only things that have risen in price. All hair to the 13 cent postage stamp. But really now, I heard a rumor that the post office is trying to be fair about it. I heard that beginning real soon now you'll be able to put a stamp on Master Charge or Bankamericard and spread the payments out over a couple months.

And have you noticed how some of these liberal candidates for President are beginning to say a few kind words about free enterprise? I think what got them first interested was the word "Free".

One candidate is running on the platform of registering all guns. Why register guns? They don't care to vote!

I certainly believe in the control of certain dangerous weapons. In my wife's case it means registering her cookbooks.

I don't want to say anything about Nancy's cooking, but one time she made waffles--and for the next three years we used them for mud and snow tires.

Speaking of eating, my brother-in-law stopped by the other day and ate with us. I really shouldn't talk about my brother-in-law like this because he happens to be a gourmet. He's the only one I know who puts oregano on a Big Mac.

I won't say he's a sloppy eater, but, to him, finger food is mashed potatoes.

I'll say one thing for my relatives: They do count calories. They may need a pocket calculator to do it, but they do count calories.

One time they were having Thanksgiving dinner with us and they all burped at the same time and blew out windows in Omaha, Nebr.

But with all our problems and higher prices we'll just have to be more careful. I know a mortician who's so careful that last week he took out malpractice insurance.
