Pioneer Candles, Inc., a Woodward based firm since its inception in 1973 has purchased the J&T store building on Main Street in Mooreland and is now in the processing of moving.
The firm is owned by Mr. and Mrs. Jim Eker and they serve on the board of directors along with Franklin Stecher and Marshall Austin, Woodward, and Paul Huffman, Arnett.
At the present time the candle manufacturing plant employes 12 and is in operation 24 hours a day. Eker says he hopes to increse the work force immediately and applications are now being accepted.
Eker said Tuesday they have hopes to begin moving equipment this weekend.
An open house at the new location is planned for a later date, As soon as we get into full operation again, Eker said.
The move to Mooreland was made because a bigger building was needed that the one in Woodward. Both Mr. and Mrs. Eker are natives of Mooreland and they have recently moved to Mooreland. They have three grown sons, Darrell, Donnie and Dennis.
Woodward VFW Post #1335 will conduct a ceremony Sat., Feb. 14, at 2:30 p.m. to dedicate a flag pole and present a United States flag and an Oklahoma state flag to the Northwest Opportunities Center located at 17th and Main.
The flag pole was built by VFW member Jim Farley. The Oklahoma flag was given to VFW member Jerry Riley while he was serving in Viet Nam. He was presented the flag as recognition for being the youngest Oklahoman serving in Viet Nam, being 17 year old at that time. When the Center asked for an Oklahoma flag, Riley gave the flag to the post to be presented to the center. Post advocate Jack Moore will speak at the service.
The public is invited to attend.
The Sharon United Methdist Church will have a special program and reception honoring Mr. and Mrs. Lee Valentine on Sun., Feb. 15, at 2:30 p.m. All their friends and neighbors are invited to attend.
The Valentines been Church members here for nearly 50 years and raised their eight children in the Church. Mrs. Valentine has been very active in all phases of the church work
