Early in 1996 some genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project. It was their idea to provide a way for single entry point for all counties in their state, where information on databases could be stored. This data would be indexed and cross-linked, making it easier to locate information about an individual.
In June of 1996 it was decided to include other states in the project. The Oklahoma Genweb (OKGenWeb) is an outgrowth of the Kentucky project. There are volunteers state wide that help coordinate information into databases. Some of the other OKGenWeb projects are: Oklahoma Ghost Towns Project; Oklahoma/Indian Territory Project; Oklahoma Land Records; Soldiers of the Great War; Early Military Forts, Posts and Camps in Oklahoma; and several others.
Each county has a volunteer to oversee the web page for the county. Woodward, Harper, Ellis and Dewey counties each have their own web page. The Woodward county web page contains:
1. QueriesSome web pages are masterpieces. They are colorful and full of genealogical information. Some contaia photos of early settlers; Bible records; early wills; early land records; early marriages; obituaries; and cemetery inscriptions. And the list can go on...
The Woodward Web Page has a counter. This lets us know the number of individuals that have accessed the web site. Th& counter was reset on April 1, 1997. To date there have been 3,604 individuals visit the web site.
