Gage Youth Held As Jap Prisoner

WOODWARD July. 12-($pecial)--Notification has come that Kedron Wilds of the Gage Community, who was reported over a year ago as missing in action, is a prisoner of the Japs in the Philippines.

He is one of five orphaned brother who are serving with the armed forces. One brother, Orban Wilds was wounded during the north Africa fighting but no other word regarding him has been received.

Earl Pratt, Woodward, Is Prisoner of Japs

WOODWARD, June 29-(Special.)-Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Pratt, living south of Shattuck, have been notified that their son, Pvt. Earl Pratt, Is being held a prisoner of the Japs In rhe Philippines.

This was the first notice received regarding him In over a year. It is known that he was at Bataan and in Corregidor fort when it fell. Information regarding him was developed by the Red Cross.

Woodward Officer Wounded

WOODWARD, June 29.—(Special.)—Through the war department, Mr. and Mrs. Pearl McKee of the South­ard community have been informed that their son, Lieut. Ralph D. McKee, is in a hospital in England recuperating from wounds received in battle. Lieut. McKee is a navigator and has been awarded a medal for bringing down one Nazi plane.

Woodward Army Man Promoted to Captain

WOODWARD, June 24-(Special)—As an award for service his “Fight­ing Cock” squadron rendered during the recent fighting in Tunis, First Lieut. Robert L. Metcalf of Hooker has been promoted to captain, according o announcement by headquarters, Ninth U. S. air force in the middle east. Metcalf was a member of the Fighting Cock” squadron of the 57th fighter group which distinguished itself with the great air victory over Tunis when the group destroyed 74 German planes.

PRISONERS OF JAPS

DWARD, July 2.— (Special)- Mrs. L. L. Snow has been notified by the war department that her brother, Lt. William Berry, is a prisoner of the Japs. He was stationed in the Philippines at the time of the Jap invasion and has been reported missing in the mean time.

Woodward Contractor Recovering in City

WOODWARD, June 29.-(Special)-Lyle Shellhart of this city is recuperating in Wesley hospital at OkIa­loma City from severe Injuries re­ceived when he fell from the roof of a building under construction at the Woodward army air base. He struck 18 feet below on the floor, breaking several bones and being Injired otherwise. Shellhart is a building contractor on an army job.

Woodward Youth Made Sergeant In Army Air Corps

WOODWARD, June 29.-(Special)-~Mr. and Mrs. David Johnson of Gage have received notice of the pro­motion of their son, Ronald F. John­ion, to sergeant in the amry air forces, now servin with the Antilles air command.

He is chief intelligence clerk at one the West Indies air bases, guarding the vital approaches to the Carribean and flies daily over an area extending from the wesern tip Cuba to the equatorial belt of South America.

Army air bases are strategically located on Coral islands in the midst of tropical jungles, forming a pro­ective barrier for the gateways to the three Americas.

Two Small Children Drown in Farm Tanks

WOODWARD, July 13.--(Speical)--Drownings of two small children In farm stock tanks are reported the circumstances being similar. Catherine Cofer, 9-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Cofer of the Kibby locality, was found dead y her father lying face downward in about 1 1/2 feet of water. He noticed her shoes near the tank and investigated. In the Hardesy community the 17- month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. SyIvester Lewis drowned in the farm stock tank. The mother was nearby doing the famiIy wash when the boy climbed into the tank.

Fairview Man, Gunner On Fortress, Missing

WOODWARD, July 10--(Special)--Staff Sgt. Wilbur Thys of Fairview has been missing in action iIn combat service over occupied countries since June 13, according to information forwarded to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Thys.

Corporal Thy visited in Fairview April prior to arriving in England
