By Jodie E. Jackson Jr. News Tribune
Looking for a long-lost Missouri relative who served in the military? Look no further than the Missouri State Archives in Jefferson City.
The state archives has more than 50,000 cubic feet of records for researchers, genealogists and other history buffs. The information includes census data, land deeds and transfers, and a wide range of military records.
The military records cover the Missouri Militia from 1804 to 1900, including county enrollment lists for 89 of 114 counties for the period immediately following the Civil War (1865 - 1866).
Other records cover the War of 1812, the Indian Wars of the 1830's, the Mexican War of 1846 - 1847, the Spanish-American War and World War I.
