The Ohio Mutual Registry allows adoptees and birth parents a way to reunite. A release of information form must be filed with the Bureau of Vital Statistics by birth parents and birth sibling. Adult adoptees must petition County Probate Courts to check the Mutual Consent Registry for a release of their birth family. If a release form is on file, the adoptee can be given identifying information about the birth family. Pre-1941 adoptions finalized in Indiana are NOT considered part of the "closed" records law. Request for pre-1941 records may be fairly new to some Indiana Courts. The adopted person who qualifies under this law should persist when contacting the court with jurisdiction. In case of problems, contact the Indiana State Board of Health, 1330 West Michigan Street, P. 0. Box 1964, Indianapolis, IN 46206.
