Thomas P. Gore, State Legislator and US Senator from Oklahoma

Thomas P. Gore was born in Webster County, Mississippi, December 10, 1870. After receiving a common school education, he entered the law school of Cumberland University, Lebanon, Tennessee, from where he graduated in 1892. In 1896, he settled in Texas and lived years later, at Lawton, Oklahoma.. In 1902, he was elected to the upper house of the Territorial Legislative Assembly. When the state of Oklahoma was admitted into the Union, he was elected as one of its first United States Senators. He was reelected in 1908 and again in 1914. Senator Gore was totally blind from the time he was a young boy, and an example of what people with disabilities can achieve.
