VENDOME ARTESIAN WELL

VENDOME ARTESIAN WELL & PLUNGE

The Vendome received its name from a spa in Germany by the same name.

The Vendome Well & Plunge was the joint venture of John Townsley and Frank Lewis.

The well was drilled in 1922 and issued 3,500 gallons per minute

making it the largest artesian well in the world.

This is how the Vendome Well appears today issuing about 500 gpm.

This is how the Vendome Plunge appeared in the early 1920’s.

The water came out of the ground at 65°.  The pond in the foreground

was the solar heated warming pool for the water before it was put into the swimming pool.

The Vendome Well shot water 28 feet into the air when drilled.
