James Mitchell Holliday, dob 6-30-1846, born in Lucasville, Scioto County, Ohio. His parents were Alexander & Nancy Mitchell Holliday formerly of Antrim, Ireland. James enlisted 10-16-1861 at Portsmouth, Warren Co., OH in Civil War as a Pvt. in Co. F, 56th Reg. Ohio Volunteers Inf. under command of Capt. George Wilhelm. He was honorably discharged in New Orleans, LA on 1-31-1864 & re-enlisted as Corporal in Co. D & was discharged 11-26-1865. He served near Memphis, TN in the month of August 1862 & contracted pleurisy & at Mansfield, LA in April 1864 received deafness of left ear from a cannon he was helping repel an attack of the enemy. He married Sarah Jennie "Huston" Holliday 7-5-1872 in Lucasville, OH and fathered 10 children;6 born in Lucasville and last 4 born in Crescent, OK. Children were A. Bonner Holliday, Ellen, Bertha, William Beverly, Oliver, Daisy, Benjamin, James M. Jr., Perle P. & Roy Logan. Most of whom are buried in the Crescent cemetery.
