Frances Bailey Kennemer

Frances Bailey KennemerFrances "Fran" Bailey Kennemer passed away March 7, 2011 at Mercy Hospital. Fran was born in Chickasha, Ok. on July 11, 1920, to Dr. Thomas Leonard Bailey and Alma Sigmon Bailey. She was raised in Shawnee, where her father was the head of the Chemistry Dept. at OBU. She had one sibling, Dr. Phillip Bailey, head of the Organic Chemistry Dept. at U.T., Austin, who preceded her in death.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, R. Victor Kennemer, Jr.
She is survived by two children, R. Victor Kennemer III and wife, Betty, of Wewoka, Ok. and Janet Julia Case of Guthrie, whose husband, Ronnie Case, passed away last year. For the past seven years Fran lived with her daughter, Jan, who unselfishly and tirelessly cared for her mother full time. Fran is survived by four grandchildren, Justin Patterson and wife, Maggie, of OKC and their beautiful children, Macey, Reese and Creek. Also grandson Chase Victor Case of OKC, both of whom she cherished and loved, as did they for her, until her death. She is also survived by granddaughters, Jerrilyn and Jacqueline Kennemer. Fran is survived by six great grandchildren and many neices and nephews.
After WWII, Fran and Vic returned from Wash. D.C. to Lindsay, Ok. where Vic was an attorney. They filled their dream to be active in a small community and raise their family, Vic and Jan. Fran obtained her teaching degree while son Vic was finishing his under graduate degree at O.U. She taught 4th and 5th grades in Lindsay for many years.
In 1971, while her husband was V.P. of the Okla. Bar Assn, they were involved in a horrific car accident that took his life. She moved to OKC in 1972 and became the secretary to the Hon. Ralph B. Hodges, Justice of the Okla. Supreme Court for the next 23 yrs.
Fran was very active in the OKC Symphony and the supportive Decorators Show House. Fran and Vic helped to establish the first Episcopal Church in Lindsay, St. Michaels. In OKC, Fran was a devout member of All Souls Episcopal Church. She could have left no greater legacy than to have raised all of her children and grandchildren in the light of Christ's Grace.
Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, 220 N. 1st St., Guthrie. Funeral services will be held at Chapel of St. Mary at All Souls' Episcopal Church, OKC on Tuesday, March 15 at 12:00 p.m. (6400 N. Penn. Ave.). Visitation will be Monday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
