Thell Morris "Butch" Davis, 53, of Pond Creek, a former member of the Poteau Police Department and a retired Oklahoma Highway patrolman, died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.
Born Dec. 13, 1945, in Cameron, he was a graduate of Cameron High School. After working for a while as a roughneck in the oil fields, he worked three years as a Poteau policeman before being accepted by the Highway Patrol in 1970.
On Aug. 12, 1983, he married Tana Shire in Poteau. They made their home in Pond Creek. He retired from the Highway Patrol in 1997 and worked one year with the Grant County Sheriff's Department before beginning work for the Pond Creek Police Department, where he was employed until his death.
He was a member of the Poteau Masonic Lodge and the Poteau Baptist church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at the Pond Creek High School Auditorium. Rev. John Flemmans and Rev. Norman Cullumber will officiate. Burial will follow at Pond Creek Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Tana; two sons, Keegon and Trevor Davis, all of Pond Creek; three sisters, Mae Slavens and her husband, Albert, of Poteau, Demeris Kilgore of Dallas, Texas, and Colene Wagner and her husband, Ed, of Poteau; two brothers, Lee Davis and his wife, Carian, of Eufaula, and Art Davis of Holton, Kan.; several nieces and nephews, Doyle Wayne Davis, Walter Slavens, Gina Jones and family, Stephanie Lowers and family, Greg Davis, Doug and Mitchell Davis, Eric and Lori Kirkland and Ann Davis.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Doyle Davis.
Memorials can be made to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol through the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home, P.O. Box 3501, Enid, Okla 73702, which is in charge of funeral arrangements, or to any Masonic Lodge.
Services are under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Wilburton.
