Francis Viola Doyle is the daughter of Samuel Lafayette and Martha Francis (Hughes) Doyle.

Christopher & Francis had nine children: Billy, Zeb, Charles, Gladys, Paralee, M.A., Evelyn, Janette and Freda.

CC and Vi are buried in Hodgen Cemetery, LeFlore County, Oklahoma.

Funeral services were for Christopher C. Caughern 59 year old resident of the Hodgens community was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Hodgens Baptist Church with Rev. C.W. Blaylock officiating. The burial was at Hodgens cemetery and under direction of Hall Funeral Home. 

Survivors include his wife, Viola Doyle-Caughern; three sons, Billy Dwain, Zelbert Ray and Charles Dwight Caughern all of the home. Six daughters, Mrs. Gladys McCurtain, Mrs. Paralee Keeney; both of Hodgens. Mrs. M.A. Sims, Conser, Mrs. Freda Stewart of Hon, Arkansas, and Evelen and Janette Caughern both of the home. One brother, Grover Caughern, Conser; and one sister, Mollie Queen, Petros.


Francis Viola "Vi" Doyle – Caughern – was the firstborn child of Samuel Lafayette and Martha Francis Hughes-Doyle. Vi was born in Blackfork, Arkansas, Indian Territory on December 2, 1897. 

Vi married Christopher Columbus "CC" Caughern on December 24, 1916 in Petros, Oklahoma. Nine children were born to Vi and CC: Gladys Louree, Ilene Paralee, M.A. Imogene, Freda Mae, Billy Dwain, Martha Evelyn, Zelvert Ray, Doris Janette and Charles Dwight. Vi was known to be a midwife delivering many babies in the Hodgen area for Dr. Fair. However, Dr. Fair was there to her deliver her children at home. 

CC died in 1949 leaving Vi with five children still at home. Vi a wonderful Christian woman, lived and walked the life of a Christian. She was a charter member of the Hodgen Baptist Church in which she raised all of her children and attended until she was physically unable to attend. Even then she would listen to taped services provided to her. One son, Charles would become a Baptist Minister. 

Vi loved to garden, quilt, cook and her grandchildren. Vi always had a large flower and vegetable garden. Vi died on January 3, 1985 in Poteau, Oklahoma and is buried in Hodgen Cemetery.
