Woman Is Drowned When Wagon Upsets

Poteau, March 15 (Special) - Mrs. Lee Kirkley, living near Glendale, this county, was drowned, and her husband and two sisters had a narrow escape when a wagon, in which they were riding, turned over while fording Poteau river, twelve miles south of Wister.

The four were returning home from Talihina, where they were visitng relatives. They had crossed the stream many times before but it being after dark, they did not know that the river had been swollen by heavy rains early that day.

Mrs. Kirkley was caught under the wagon. The others were thrown clear and swam to shore. Mrs. Kirkley's body was not found until the next day. Mrs. Kirkley was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Dehart of Talihina, one of the most widely known families of LeFlore county.
