Probing Man's Death

Fort Smith, Ark., July 29 (Special) - Frank "Slick" Hegeler, a well known character, was found dead along the Kansas City Southern railway company's bridge across Poteau river on the LeFlore county side late Sunday afternoon and Jane Allen and "Dutch" Melster, local characters, were arrested and held for an investigation. Monday they were taken to Poteau, Okla., by Deputy Sheriff Bill Lowrey until a complete investigation can be made of Hegeler's death. Melster says he left the woman and Hegeler sitting near the bridge to come to this city to purchase some whisky. When he returned he says Hegeler was dead. The woman told him Hegeler took an overdose of cocaine. Police found an empty cocaine bottle and a box full of the drug on the woman.
