Emmitt Hampton Jr., 64, of Albion, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2003. He was born May 14, 1939 in Talihina to the Rev. Emmitt Hampton Sr. and Velda Mae Nowabbi-Hampton. He married his wife Betty Joe on Oct. 25, 1963. He served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam and retired a Chief Petty Officer in 1992 after 21 years of service. Emmitt was a member of the Greenhill Baptist Church and Fleet Reserve.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Vivian Louise Hampton, Josephine Whisenhunt, an infant sister; and one brother, James Hampton.

Survivors include his wife of the home; five children, Frances Kay Hampton and Emmitt Hampton III, both of Poteau, Samuel C. Hampton and William D. Hampton, both of Pocola and Susan Thompson of Talihina; as well as nine grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 7 at the Greenhill Baptist Church in Talihina with the Rev. Artis Potts officiating. Burial followed at the Greenhill Cemetery under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.
