John E. Grigsby, 83, of Tishomingo, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2003. He was born July 29, 1919 at Clarita to John Grover and Mabel Estella Weyant Grigsby. He graduated from Clarita High School and then served in the U.S. Army during World War II and later in other branches of the Armed Forces. After his military service, he attended and graduated from Murray State College in Tishomingo and Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater. John married Velma Rush on April 21, 1946 in Ada and worked as the County 4-H Director in Choctaw County, LeFlore County and Pittsburg County before moving to Tishomingo in 1972. He worked as the Oklahoma State University Extension Agent in Tishomingo until his retirement in 1985. John was a member of numerous Masonic organizations to include the Tishomingo Masonic Lodge No. 91, Wapanucka Masonic Lodge No. 200, the Order of the Eastern Star, the McAlester Scottish Rite and the Shrine Temple. He was also a member of the VFW, the American Legion and many other work related and social organizations. He attended the First United Methodist Church in Tishomingo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Hugh Grigsby.

Survivors include his wife Velma of the home; one son, Doug Grigsby of the home; one daughter, Vickie Riddle of Tishomingo; one sister, Irene Stubblefield of Pocola; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Westside Church of Christ with Jack Way and the Rev. Bill Benton officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilson Cemetery in Clarita under the direction of Clark Funeral Service of Tishomingo; with Military Honors provided by VFW Post No. 4869 and American Legion Post No. 164, both of Tishomingo and Masonic Rites provided by Tishomingo Masonic Lodge No. 91. 

Pallbearers will be members of the Tishomingo Masonic Lodge No. 91.

Memorials may be made to the John E. Grigsby Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Murray State College, Tishomingo, OK 73460.
