W. L. Emmert, Pioneer Citizen, Died Last Thursday Night

William L. Emmert, aged 68 years, died at his home in this city Thursday evening, April 27th, following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the home of A. B. Emmert, oldest son of the deceased. Rev. C. E. Goatcher officiated. Burial was in the City Cemetery.

Mr. Emmert was the oldest son of the late J. E. Emmert of this city. He came to Talihina forty-five years ago while Frisco was clearing the land for the town, and has been closely identified with the growth and development of Talihinia and surrounding territory. For many years he was engaged in the lumber business. For the past few years he has operated a grocery store here. Between four and five o'clock Friday afternoon in retail establishments in Talihina were closed out of respect for the deceased.

Mr. Emmert was born near Hackett, Ark., May 19th, 1869. He was married to Miss Mattie Banks, Sept. 30th, 1895.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mattie Emmert, of Talihina; three sons, A. B. Emmert, E. R. Emmert, and J. E. Emmert, all of Talihina; two daughters, Mrs. P. B. Little of Heavener and Mrs. Orbie Hopkins of Poteau; three brothers, J. E. Emmert of Oklahoma City, Frank A. Emmert of Hanna, Okla., and R. B. Emmert of Talihina; and four sisters, Mrs. W.L. Harris of Tulsa and Mrs. J. L. Gary, Mrs. J. E. Jordan and Mrs. J. W. Anderson of Talihina.

There are also five grandchildren.
