Nicholas "Coach" DurantNicholas "Coach" Durant, 55, of Poteau, passed away Monday, April 28, 2003. He was born Jan. 13, 1948 at Hugo. He was CASC Women's Head Basketball Coach and a member of the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference. He had coached for approximately 25 years; coaching the Lady Vikings at Carl Albert State Church for the last six years.

Survivors include his wife Sally of the home; two daughters and son-in-law, Winona (Durant) and Billy Johnson of North Miami, Okla. and Shelly Durant of Poteau; one son, Nicholas Durant II of the home; one foster son, Howard Wahnetah of Cherokee, N.C.; two sisters, Kathleen Jackson of Muskogee and Katherine Prince of Miami; one brother, Bill Durant of Talihina; two grandchildren, Annie Durant and Dustin Johnson; two grandchildren, Annie Durant and Dustin Johnson; two nephews, four nieces; one great-nephew; one uncle, Col. Perry B. Woolridge and wife Mayslle; numerous other relatives and loved ones and a host of beloved friends.

Family visitation will be at Foundation Baptist Church in Poteau on Wednesday, April 30 beginning at 7 p.m.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 1 at Carl Albert State College Gymnasium in Poteau with Kenny Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in Siloam Spring Cemetery at McCurtain under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.

Pallbearers will be Jo Morris, Yahola Tiger, John Escue, Jackie Jackson, David Durbin and Scott Foster.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Lady Vikings players and former players.
