2 Coal Miners Killed in Cave-In

Heavener - Two coal miners were killed instantly early Thursday when part of a roof over the area they were working fell in, a company official reported.

Kerns Shelley, mine safety director for the Howe Coal Co. mine in Heavener, identified the dead miners as Nick Cirar, 50, Hartshorne, and Bill G. Puckett, 38, Bokeoshe (sic) [Bokoshe].

Works Auditor Gerald Parrish said the roof collapsed at 2:20 am and caught the two men working in the area and one, Franklin Miller, Heavener, witnessed the incident, Parrish said.
