Ernest Daniel Burgess, 86, of Van Buren died Friday, April 25, 2003, in Van Buren. He was a retired mechanic for Ryder Truck Rentals. He served in the Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura “Bess” Burgess; his parents, Tom and Molly Burgess; two sisters, Ila Mae Cameron, and Naomi Rapier; a grandson, Richard Bagley; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Burgess. He also was a member of North Park Baptist Church.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Jane Burgess and Johnny and Edna Burgess, all of Van Buren; four sisters, Robbie Toothaker of Van Buren, Peggy Baber of Bella Vista, Roxie Moore of Poteau and Geneva Daugherty of Tulare, Calif.; a brother, Joe Burgess of Fort Smith; six grandchildren, Mike and Jeff Burgess, Carl Bagley, Judy Lewis, Angela Carter and Tammy Shelby; three step-grandchildren, Kelli Owens and Jody and Scott Mosby; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Carter, Dustin Green, Arthur Lewis, Gary and A.J. Shelby, Les Toothaker and Rick Baber.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
