Joyce Marie (Dennis) Bowers, 61, of Spiro, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was born Nov. 10, 1941 at Oklahoma City to Howard and Hazel (Dibler) Dennis. She was a homemaker and a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 4884 of Spiro. She was a charter member.

She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Dennis; her mother and stepfather, Harmon and Hazel Thompson; and one son, Matthew Eugene Bowers.

Survivors include her husband Alva "Willie" Bowers of the home; four daughters, Tina Sellers and husband Richard of Oklahoma City; Marilyn Scrivener and husband Jimmy of Keota; Kim Claunts and husband Harvey of Eucha; and Liz Cole and husband Dale of Sapulpa; one son, Michael Bowers of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Betty Scrivener and husband Billy Ragan of Lavaca, Ark. and Cheryl Thompson and husband Tim Bryant of Newalla; six brothers, Jerry Dennis, Billy Dennis, Bobby Dennis and Harry Dennis, all of Oklahoma City, Gene Thompson and wife Cindy of Midwest City and Bill and Kathie Thompson of Palatka, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 6 at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith Ark. with the Rev. Paul Davis officiating, under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.

Pallbearers will be VFW members of Post No. 4884.
