Gary Beathard, 33, of Crescent, passed away Saturday, June 21 in Guthrie from injuries of an automobile accident. He was born Oct. 20, 1969 in Talihina. He and his family moved to Fletcher when he was in the sixth grade. He graduated from Fletcher High School in 1988. He was a standout on the high school basketball team with them winning the state championship his senior year and was selected Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Gary went on to play at Oklahoma City University and they won the National Championships his junior and senior year (91 and 92). He married Jenny Scott, July 11, 1992 in Chickasha. After graduating from OCU he went to teach and coach junior high basketball at Chickasha, then to Sallisaw as head coach of the high school boys basketball, then to Ketchum as high school boys basketball coach, to Grandfield as high school principal, then to Crescent in 2001 as superintendent of schools. Gary was currently working on his doctorate through Oklahoma State University. He was a member of CCOSA and the State and National Associations of School Administrators.

Survivors include his wife, Jenny and their three children, Landon Scott, JoHanna Lynn and Alexa Kaydee, all of the home; his parents, Kay and Gary "Red" Beathard of Eufaula; one brother, Keith Beathard of Bokoshe; his mother-in-law, Janice Lee and her husband, Sammy of Fletcher; one sister-in-law, Shelly Holden and her husband, Steve of Fletcher; and one brother-in-law, Chad Scott and his wife Tara of Duncan; and many other relatives and friends.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 25 in the Fletcher Christian Church of Fletcher, with the Rev. David Klumpt, pastor of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church of Chickasha, officiating. Burial followed in the Fletcher Cemetery under the direction of Hodge Funeral Home of Fletcher.
