The Museum is a lasting tribute to the early day coal mining era in which Wilburton was founded. A monument rests outside the Museum listing the miners who lost their lives in mining accidents. The inside is full of artifacts that are analogous to the era of 1880 to 1930. At least one of every artifact that was used in the mining of coal of this era may be found as well as a map of Lutie and location of mines.

After eighteen (18) years of operation the museum has had visitors from thirty-eight (38) states and seven (7) foreign countries and thousands of viewers.

The Museum has never received any public money. A good bit of work, some monetary donations, and many artifacts were donated by friends and family members who wanted to see the story of their forefathers survive, but 100% of the cost has been borne by the Pate family and friends.
