Morris and Willie Newman ran this station, grocery store, and campground located on the east end of Hollis on Broadway Street across from where the Hollis Inn is presently located. This was in the late 30s and early 40s.
The Newman's lived at the campground. Their kitchen and living area was in one cabin, and their sleeping area was in another cabin. There was also a bathhouse with showers (not many) and bathroom facilities. They rented out the rest of the four or five cabins.
Willie cooked on an old oil cook stove and Morris pumped Ethel gasoline from the old gas pumps which were partly glass. You could watch the gas as it was pumped. They had a cow across the street west and had fresh milk. Willie churned the cream with a wooden churn for their butter.
At another time, John and Rossie Tucker managed this campground.
People traveling to California would stop and spend the night here.
