John Hilderbrand B. Feb. 12, 1775 – died at the home of his son David Hilderbrand on Nov. 20, 1847.  He came to Cherokee Nation East in 1797 and to Cherokee Nation West in 1839 with son Peter Hilderbrand, Wagon train commander.  (JMC)  [Page 534, Transcriber]

 

 

July 1848 William Potter Ross (Grad. Of Princeton) took over as Editor of the Cherokee Advocate at Tahlequah.  Mr. Ross was a Colonel in Union Army during Civil War and was Chief of the Cherokee Nation after the Civil War.  He was buried at Ft. Gibson City cemetery; the funeral service – Masonic.  He was also Editor of the Vinita Chieftain at one time W.P. Ross was one of the great men of the Cherokee Nation.  (JMC)  [Page 534, Transcriber]
