BIRD:
Would appreciate it if someone could give us an updated list of those buried in the Redbird Smith
Cemetery near Gore. I have a partial listing, but it is not complete. This info would have to come from a very
elderly Cherokee who might remember or have kept a list just for the tribe. I have a statement from a funeral home
in Shawnee, OK stating that my husband's aunt was buried in that cemetery in 1939, next to her father, Charlie Richard
Bird. The cemetery has many very old sandstone and rock headstones that have deteriorated badly and are unreadable.
C. R. Bird was supposed to have been Choctaw, not Cherokee although he operated a ferry across the Illinois River at
Gore. His death year is uncertain, but is near the turn of the century.
