Yes, a federal census was taken in 1890 for Indian Territory!
Two copies were made at the time of enumeration: one for the U.S. Government;
the other to be kept locally.
A fragment of the old Towson County, Choctaw Nation, enumeration was recently
found in a court house.
It was sent to the Archives and Manuscripts Division of Oklahoma Historical
Society.
We are reproducing it here, in hopes that other parts of the 1890 census can be
found and preserved.
