Stacy Cleveland Talley

After celebrating 88 years of life, Stacy Cleveland Talley was called home May 20, 2011 to meet his Lord and other loved ones who have gone on before him.
Stacy was born October 8, 1922 north of Soper, Oklahoma "in the blackjacks of the old Brewer place." He lived with his large family in several southeastern Oklahoma farming communities around Soper, Snow, and Mudsand, "the old home place." He attended high school in Antlers before joining the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1939 at the age of 17. After spending six months in Basalt, Colorado building ranger stations, he moved back to Oklahoma to farm. He was then drafted into the United States Navy during World War II and served two years (1944-46) on the carrier USS Puget Sound in the Pacific as a Seaman First Class.
After the war, Stacy married Lena Lucille Deskin of Norman on April 17, 1946. They had two daughters, Glenda Lucille, born in 1947and Marilyn Sue in 1948. After working as a painter and living in Norman and Noble, the Talley's moved to Ponca City in 1953 where he was hired as a welder and one of the first ten employees of the new Continental Carbon. Lena was employed by the Conoco Gas Measurement Department. She passed away in 1971 just before the celebration of their 25th wedding anniversary.
On July 3, 1972, Stacy and Lavon Lovingier Fyffe married in Arkansas City, Kansas. Stacy retired in 1981 and Lavon retired from the Ponca City School system in 1983. They moved to Enid in 1995. Lavon has been a 39-year loving, caring and supportive partner and they were fortunate to enjoy their retirement years among many old and new friends and a growing family.
Stacy was one of six children of Pleasant Oscar Talley and Mary Belle Clayton. His surviving siblings are Vina White of Oklahoma City, Minnie Herman of Mosier, Oregon and Maxine McQueen of Fayetteville, Arkansas. His brothers, Everett and Carl, pre-deceased him in 1965 and 2008.
Stacy's life is honored and celebrated by his many friends and family. Surviving him are his wife, Lavon; daughters, Glenda Pritchett of Shreveport, La.; Marilyn Talley Rains of Jenks; and a step-daughter Mary Louise Woods of Meno. He was the proud grandfather (Granpa) of Charles Jones and wife, Roberta of Sherman, Texas; Martie Jones Hampton and Mike of Frisco, Texas; Matthew Rains and wife, Angie of Jenks; and Brad Rains of Los Angeles. He was the great-grandfather (Pepaw) of Rachel and Grant Jones; Hannah, Nicholas and Brandon Hampton; and Coleman and Katie Rains. He was also the uncle to many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be 11:00am Tuesday, May 24, 2011 in Ponca City IOOF Cemetery. Viewing is in Enid at Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home, 601 W. Broadway, daily from 8:00am until 10:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given through the funeral home to Hospice Circle of Love of Enid. |
