(October 29, 1921 - May 20, 2011)
Sarah Anita TownleySarah Anita Townley was born October 29, 1921 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Steven and Lodiska Cowan. She went to be with the Lord on Friday morning, May 20, 2011. Anita attended school in Shawnee where she met and married W.E. Love in 1939, and to that union one son was born, Steve Love. While living in Shawnee, she was employed at Oklahoma Natural Gas.
Years later, while still living in Shawnee, Anita met H.R. "Ray" Townley, and the two married in July, 1956. For the next three years, they made their home in Ardmore where daughter Kathey was born. In 1963, they moved to Enid where Ray became manager of Memorial Park Cemetery, which he continued to do for over forty years. During their 50+ years of marriage, Anita and her husband traveled the world together and with many close friends. Her favorite of these trips was to Canada in 1995 where they went heli-hiking. They were flown to the summit of a snow-covered mountain and hiked across glaciers.
In addition to traveling, Anita was an active, long time member of Central Christian Church where she was a member of the Sooner Class and Christian Women's Fellowship. She greatly valued the friendships formed with her P.E.O sisters and was a member of the DB chapter. One of her favorite social activities was Bridge Club, and she regularly hosted games at her home. Anita was also a talented china painter and loved attending painting classes with her friends. Her grace and generosity will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Anita's love for life was evident to all who knew her, and her beautiful smile lit up the room. She especially loved having the opportunity to share in the life of her granddaughter. She instilled in her family the desire to protect and nurture those with no voice. Her love for animals was known to all, especially her dogs, Molly and Daisy, who were of great comfort and companionship.
She is survived by daughter, Kathey Unruh and husband, Darrell of Enid; son, Steve Love and wife, Linda of Houston; granddaughter, Elizabeth Waken of Enid; step-grandson, Jerred Unruh, wife Kerrie, and baby, Titus; and two grandsons, Stacey Love and wife, Bobbie Jo; and Scott Love, all of San Antonio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, H.R. "Ray" Townley of Enid; parents; and two brothers, Dewitt and Howard Cowan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to one of her favorite charities, St. Jude's Children's hospital, Enid SPCA, or Central Christian Church with Henninger-Hinson acting as custodians for the funds.
