The memorial service for Professor Richard T. Anderson, 85 year-old Enid resident, will be Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 11:00AM in St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. The Rev. Stephen Samples will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
Richard was born April 19, 1926 in Enid the first child of John and Margaret ( Bergner ) Anderson and died Friday, December 23, 2011 in his home. Educated in Enid schools, Anderson entered the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in the South Pacific. Upon returning to Enid, he entered Phillips University but the Korean Campaign interrupted his academic career and he saw service in that unhappy country with the U.S. Army as an artilleryman. In the years that followed he completed his baccalaureate in Phillips and began his graduate study in the University of Oklahoma. In 1956 he joined the Phillips University faculty as a history professor and he continued to serve that institution in professional and administrative roles until his retirement in 1991. He was subsequently recalled to Phillips for a series of special assignments until his final retirement in 1995.
In recent years Anderson has been active as a member of the Integris Bass Baptist Health Center Auxillary and was also active in volunteer work with Our Daily Bread and the Horn of Plenty.He was a member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. He is survived by his twin daughters Margaret Hardage and husband Miles, Beatrice Anderson-Bueno and husband Veloren, all of Enid. Six grandchildren, Christopher Hardage, Joseph Hardage, Charles Hardage, and Richard Hardage, Joshua Hammond, and Emily Anderson-Bueno. One great-grandson Datroon Hamond. , also a sister, Zelma Glod and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded by his parents and wife Anne, and infant daughter, and one sister Rose Marie Kelly.
Memorials may be made to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Park Avenue Thrift, Our Daily Bread or Horn of Plenty, through the funeral home. |
