Mary M. Welker

The funeral service for Mary M. Welker will be 2:00pm Monday, March 21, 2011 in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverends Grayson Lucky and Gail Edmison will officiate. Burial will follow in Waukomis Cemetery with Reverend George Massingill officiating. Services are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
Mary was born September 28, 1916 in Northfield, Minnesota to LaFayette and Pearl Viola (Houston) Massingill and died Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center. Her family moved to Oklahoma when she was just a year old. She attended "White" Country Grade School and Waukomis High School.
She married James "Ralph" Welker on December 1, 1935 in the home of her parents in Waukomis. They lived on a farm east of Waukomis until 1951 when they moved into Enid. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and Garfield County Choral Club for many years. She worked for the Tri State office during the music festival for many years and was allowed to organize a band for Pioneer School for two years. Mary was also a member of the Hackberry Extension Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames XVII Century past President and Treasurer, Magna Charta Dames and Barons, and Ruth Chapter #447 Order of Eastern Star past Matron. She was a member of the Methodist Church all of her life.
Pride in her sewing was apparent as she sewed for herself, husband, son, and others.
Mary is survived by one sister, Nona Miller-Lang of Enid; one brother, George Massingill and wife, Jeanne of Mannford, California; one sister-in-law, Audine Massingill of Modesto, California and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who enjoyed "Aunt Mary-Great".
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Wendall; two brothers, LaFayette "Pat" Massingill, and Hanno Massingill; two sisters, Genevieve McVicker and Vivian Solorio.
