Karen Dee SpaethFuneral services for Karen Dee Spaeth, 52 year-old Enid resident, will be 2:00pm Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at the First Baptist Church with Reverend Keith Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. At Karen’s request, the casket will remain closed.
Karen passed away February 24, 2011 at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 6, 1958 in Amarillo, TX, the daughter of Paul and Donna (Crouch) Detrixhe.
Karen attended school in Higgins, TX through her junior year, and then moved to Okeene, OK with her family where she graduated high school. While working at Watonga Hospital, she attended Oklahoma City Community College and acquired her Associates Degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
She married Larry Spaeth in 1981 and had two daughters, Ashley Diane and Bailey Kristin.
Karen worked in the Enid area as a RPTA and for the past 15 years was employed by Integris Bass Home Health where helping others was her passion. She never let health problems interfere with her work or her desire to help others.
After a lifetime of living with heart disease, Karen was blessed with a new heart on January 1, 2009. She was granted two more fulfilled years in which she was able to meet and love her first grandchild, share in the joy of her daughters graduating high school and graduate school, and celebrate her 28th wedding anniversary with her loving and ever faithful husband.
Through her Christian faith, she felt led to teach and serve in various areas of the church. Karen enjoyed gardening, Bible study, cooking for her family, cheering for her favorite team - the St. Louis Rams, lounging with her two dogs, Chigger and Lizzie and spending as much time as possible with her new granddaughter, Hallie Grace.
She was preceded in death by her nephew, Cory Chaffin.
Karen is survived by her husband, Larry of the home; two daughters, Ashley Fanning and husband, Riley of Woodward and Bailey Spaeth of the home; parents, Paul and Donna Detrixhe of Shattuck; brother, David Detrixhe and wife, Lisa of Enid; four sisters, Lana Nakvinda and husband, Danny of Enid; twin sister, Sharon Chaffin and husband, Johnny of Shattuck; Pauline Cozort and husband, Rock of Forsyth, MO; Diedra Starbuck and husband, Lonnie of Shattuck; one granddaughter, Hallie Grace Fanning of Woodward and eleven special nieces and nephews.
Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or Life Share with Henninger-Hinson serving as custodians of the funds.
