The graveside service for Don L. Pitts Sr. will be 3:00PM Sunday, January 22, 2012 in Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Thurman Sparks will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
Don was born April 2, 1923 in Garber, Oklahoma and died Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Greenbrier nursing home. He attended local schools and graduated from Buffalo High School in 1947. He married Ida Smalley on November 14, 1943 in the Methodist Church in Lucien. He was drafted into the Army soon after and served with the 263rd Infantry in the European Theater of Operations. After the war, he returned to Buffalo where he and Ida lived on his families farm. He helped on the farm while he completed his education.
In 1956, the family moved to Enid where he worked for the Champlin refinery for over twenty years until its closing. He was a long-time member of Victory Bible Church. He enjoyed traveling with Ida in their later years. He was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to music. Mostly, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter, Donna Detrick and husband, Gerald of Ames; son, Don L. Pitts Jr. and wife, Carole of Lincoln, Nebraska; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lynne Hamblin of Springtown, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ida and one brother Olin. |
