The Delaware County Historical Society was organized in 1975. The Society is working hard to preserve and study the history and heritage of Delaware County, Oklahoma.

The Society established its first museum at the Delaware County Community Center in 1983, in Jay, OK. Under the generosity of Mariee Wallace in 1988, the museum was moved to its present location after the old lumber company was renovated. The museum was named the "Mariee Wallace Museum" in honor of Mrs. Wallace in 1991.

This new location not only houses the museum but allows a place for programs and functions pertaining to the history of Delaware County.

The Society published it's first history book, Heritage of the Hills, in 1979. This 1064 page history book may be ordered for $35.00 plus $2.50 s & h from:

Wynona S. Nelson
PO Box 567
Jay, OK 74346

They also have beautiful woven historical afghan's of cranberry red, hunter green or navy blue. These are $37.80, tax included. (same address as above)

Members receive two magazines a year for their $10.00 membership fee. Membership is approximately 200. Monthly meetings are held except during May, August and December. The Museum holds artifacts from throughout the county. Old courthouse records dating back to statehood, cemetery records of the entire county and much more.
