GOOD MORNING , TO ALL THOSE INVOLVED IN NATIVE AMERICAN HISTORY
i have spent several years searching for my CREEK blood line , some
times i spend so much time on the computer i go screen blind .
from the information i have found i am sure that the HOVIS families in
MARYLAND do in fact carry creek blood , when i put all the pieces
together i trace members of the CREEK nation from N.C. ALA, FLORIDA,
GA. and MISS. many of which fell in the category of slaves and who were
taken to MARYLAND AND PENNSYLVANIA . and then becoming free migrated
back to the south and the west , texas and oklahoma .
THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST TELLING RESPONSES I HAVE HAD ::::::
"MAYBE I MAY NOT HAVE THE RIGHT MARY JANE HOVIS BUT THIS IS WORTH A
LONG
SHOT TO SEE IF WE DO HAVE THE RIGHT ONE AND IF WE DO ???
I HAVE A MARY JANE HOVIS WILSON BORN IN MS ? ABOUT 1845 TO A JESSE
HOVIS BORN AROUND 1819 IN MS AT THE TIME A MENTION ON A DAWES RECORD IS
THAT THERE WAS A NANCY AND SHE MARRIED A BRENNAN AND A LIZZIE WILSON
WHICH USUALLY MEANS ELIZABETH
REJECTED ON DAWES MY MARY JANE FINALLY GOT IW AFTER 1906 SHE DIED IN OK
IN 1918
MARY J NEVER KNEW WHO HER MOTHER WAS WE HAVE BEEN TOLD MAYBE A MARY ??
BUT ALSO TALE GOES IS SHE WAS CREEK OR CHEROKEE MARY LOOKS INDIAN VERY
MUCH HAVE A PIC OF HER LONG TIME AGO "
"
the elders in my family always said that we were of indian heritage but
had little information to share ... i doubt that i could ever find the
data that would qualify me to become a member of the creek nation ,
many hundreds of hours of researching has made that clear .
i would however like to have some sort of certificate or letter that
would point out that myself , my children , sisters and grand children
do in fact carry some degree of creek blood ...... i was always told
that i was 4th blood and i take great pride in that .
this might sound strange to you but all of my life i have had a feeling
of deep kindred relationship with all native Americans , i have always
felt as i do today that i am a part of them and that the indian blood
in my body is telling me so , spirits can not be explained or
questioned .
thank you in advance for your kind attention and for any assistance you
might be able to provide ... at 72 years of age my days in this world
are growing short , my dream and hope is that i would somehow attain a
formal document for my family members that we are of proud NATIVE
AMERICAN HERITAGE WHICH I TRULY BELIEVE TO BE THE GREAT CREEK NATION ...
SINCERELY ::

My grandfather, Luther Marion Joslin, lived in Watonga area of Blaine
County, OK, 1892-1895. This fits with the land rush of 1892. Do you
have any record of the people who were identified as the first settlers
following the land rush?
Family records show he may have lived near Okarche, but that is not in
the same county -- unless Blaine County included Canadian (or is it in
Kingfisher?) county.
Thank you very much,
George Joslin

Hello Katy,
My name is Nancy Ashton Kimble and my father, Ben Ashton was born in
Blaine County. Specifically Greenfield. His family lived there until my
dad moved to California after he graduated in 1931. They all followed
soon after.
My father's mother's family moved to Blaine County from Missouri. They
were the Cooper's, Shadrack and Rebecca Stanton Cooper.
What I would like to know is if there is anyplace I can go online that
might have mention of these families in OK and more info on the County
of Blaine?
I appreciate anything you can do to help me in my family research. The
Coopers are easy to find, but the Ashtons are much more difficult to
trace.
Thank you for anything I can learn from you,
Nancy Kimble

Dear Katy:
I'm wondering if you can help me. I recently inherited a (very low
producing) oil well that belonged to my mother, which she inherited
from her father. My sister speculates that it once belonged to our
great-grandparents who ran for land during the Cherokee Strip run. I
wonder if there is any way to figure this out, and I'm asking for your
help.
The property in question is ... and this is very confusing- Jackson
#4-1, Section 4-16N-11W, Blaine County OK. Is there anyway I can figure
out who the original owners were... maybe they were my great-grands....
Their names were Guy and Alma Gardner. His son, my grandpa, was Charles
Gardner, my mother was Mary(Gardner) Rowland.
Can you help or point me in the right direction?
Thanks so much!

Kathy,
I have been able to track my father's aunt and uncle (Frank and Dicy
Witcher) and uncle Jesse Longstreet Beason graves to Geary Cemetery.
During the late 1920s and 1930s Witchers ran a restaurant in Geary, I
don't know the name. Jesse Longstreet and Robert Lee Beason also had a
sandwich stand there. This is information that I am searching for--the
death, burial and and knowledge of what happened to Robert. He is shown
on 1920 Canadian Co., Ok census with wife Maggie and son Ernest, but
after that he appears on obituary for Jesse in Geary, Blaine Co., Ok.
If you have any information concerning these families I would
appreciate hearing from you. I know this is quite awhile ago, but maybe
someone will remember them.
Thank you,
Kay (Beason) LaMunyon

Hello Katy,
I am trying to locate my father's uncle Robert Lee Beason and know that
he resided in Geary, Blaine Co., Ok 1932. He and brother Jesse L.
Beason ran a sandwich stand there for about 4 years. Jesse died and is
buried in the Geary cemetery as is their sister Dicy Witcher with
husband Frank (Francis). The Witchers had a restaurant in Geary for
numerous years. I can not trace Robert L. Beason any further then 1932
as he appears on no census records. I would appreciate any information
that you could share concerning the Beason/Witcher families while in
Geary. I am not sure where Robert L. died or is buried.
Thank you,

Ms. Hestand:
I am doing research on old guns once owned/possessed by U.S, Marshal W.D. "Bill" Fossett, Oklahoma Territory (1897-1902).
According to an article in the Ponca City Democrat on 11/4/1902, the body of outlaw Bert Casey was delivered to the Sheriff of Blaine County, OK.
Casey and his outlaw partner Bob aka Jim Sims had been shot and killed by lawmen. In their possession were firearms, make and types unknown.
The newspaper article stated that Marshall Fossett was in possession of the firearms.
I would like to identify these firearms. Is it possible that there is a record at the Blaine County Court, Sheriff's Department, or Coroner's Office pertaining to the identity of these firearms?
Any assistance or suggested leads is appreciated.
Thank you
