Jack F. Oakes

Shawnee resident Jack F. Oakes died Sunday, April 29, at his residence at the age of 81.
He was born Oct. 17, 1925, in Hugo, Okla., to Albert O. and Elza (Chambliss) Oakes. He graduated from Soper High School near Hugo.

On Dec. 18, 1953, he married Laura Hardin in Shawnee.

Jack worked at the Shawnee Mill from 1952 to 1981 and retired from Burris Milling Company in 1990.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Jack was a long time member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Charles Oakes; two sisters, LaRue Westin and Nadine Williams.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Oakes of the home; three daughters, Nancy Morris and husband, Terry, of Shawnee, Jackie Davis and husband, Rick, of Oklahoma City, and Gala Damato and husband, Kevin, of Yorktown, Va.; four grandchildren, April VanAntwerp and husband, Mike, of Shawnee, Brandi Abbott and husband, Brian, of Shawnee, Kelly Damato of Yorktown, Va., and Chris Damato of Yorktown, Va,; four great-grandchildren, Emily Abbott, Lydia, Olivia and Jack VanAntwerp; one brother, Douglas Oakes and wife, Jean, of Mountain Home, Ark.; one sister, Boodie Jo House of Soper, Okla.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Immanuel Baptist church with Dr. Todd Fisher and Sam Hendry officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Leslie Getzelman

Tecumseh resident Leslie "Uncle Getz" Getzelman died Sunday, April 29, in Tecumseh at the age of 87.
He was born Aug. 31, 1919, in Onida, S.D., to Frank Edward and Floral B. (Shaver) Getzelman.

On July 4, 1944, he married Anjaline Hogue at the Church of Christ in West Los Angeles, Calif.

He was reared in Dundee, Ill. Following his military service and marriage, he had lived in California, residing in Venice and Marine Del Ray. He had resided in Tecumseh since 1978. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in Okinawa and was in the 421 "D" Battery Field Artillery and in the Desert Wolf Training group.

As a boy, using a horse and cart, he delivered milk and ice. He worked as an upholsterer for most of his life. He worked in his garage and kept a well manicured lawn. He enjoyed model trains, playing games, joking and teasing.

He was preceded in death by his wife on May 21, 2003; his parents; and one sister, Mildred McCool.

Survivors include his nephews and spouse, Curtis and Joan McCool of Dundee, Ill.; two sisters-in-law, Anna Edgeman and Annette Hogue, both of Tecumseh; numerous nieces and nephews including Dianna Seaton of Tecumseh and Darlene "Dolly" Moore of Shawnee.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tecumseh Cemetery with Chaplain Bill House officiating.

Clovie Marie Dossey

Shawnee resident Clovie Marie Dossey, 87, passed away Monday, April 30, at Colonial Estates Nursing Home.
She was born March 31, 1920, in Mineral Springs, Ark., to Woodford and Mary Dossey.

Clovie lived in Arkansas until 1948 when she moved to Shawnee. She worked for Round House Garmet for 40 years. She was a devoted member of the Central Church of Christ. Quilting was her favorite past-time.

Survivors include her sister, Thelma Divine of Shawnee; four brothers, Charley Dossey of Shawnee, Clyde Dossey of Fontana, Calif., Lealon of Horatio, Ark., and David Dossey of Moorehead, Ky.; five nieces; four nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today.

Service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with Dwyane Dennis officiataing. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.


Deward "Junior" Hancock Jr.

Oklahoma City resident Deward "Junior" Hancock Jr., 43, died Wednesday, April 18, at Diego Garcia Air Force Base.
Junior was born June 7, 1963, in Oklahoma City to Deward E. and Carolyn (Landers) Hancock Sr.

He worked as an Aircraft Mechanic at Tinker Air Force Base.

Survivors include his mother, Carolyn Hancock-Flatt and husband, Don, of Newalla; father, Deward Hancock Sr. and wife, Ruth, of Earlsboro; three daughters, Amy Hancock of Seminole, Rebecca Hancock of Prague, Melissa Hancock of Shawnee; the mother of his daughters Angela Ross of Shawnee; one sister Terry Cleghorn and husband, Keith, of Newcastle; niece Heather Cleghorn; and many others that he touched across the globe.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Prague.

Langston Lee Gordon

Kendrick resident Langston Lee Gordon, 15, departed this life, Friday, April 27, near Stroud.
He was born July 11, 1991, to Alfred and Lisa Gordon in Sapulpa.

He attended Stroud High School.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Edwin Matheson and Reynold and Doris Sterkel.

Survivors include his father and mother, Alfred and Lisa Gordon of the home; sister, Cassidy Gordon of the home; grandparents, Milburn and Bessie Gordon of Bristow, Ronald and Janet Matheson of Kendrick; great-grandmother, Velma Matheson of Stroud; and other friends and family.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at the Stroud High School Auditorium with the Rev. Clyde McGuire and the Rev. Derek Bolin officiating. Burial will follow at Kendrick Cemetery, Kendrick.


Stanley David Wolford

Meeker resident Stanley David Wolford died Thursday, April 26, at the age of 54.
He was born Sept. 3, 1952, in Santa Maria, Calif., to Bill and Clara Wolford. He attended Arvin High School in Arvin, Calif.

On Jan. 11, 1980, he married Kay Early in Bakersfield, Calif.

Stanley enjoyed old cars and motorcycle riding.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Wolford of the home; children, Billy Joe Wolford, David Kevin Wolford, Ashley Wolford, and Roger Wolford; grandchildren Cali, Savannah, Mitchell, Stormy, Jalen, Adrian, Amiah, Caden, Dillon and Tyler; parents, Bill and Clara Wolford; brothers, James Wolford and Billy Wolford; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Meeker resident Gilbert (Ted) F. Brugman, 89, died Sunday, April 29, at his residence.

Patricia Irene Loudermilk

Maud resident Patricia Irene Loudermilk, 57, went to be with the Lord Monday, April 30, at her home in Maud.
She was born Nov. 12, 1949, in Mound Valley, Kan., to Finis David Good and Mildred Irene (Scobey) Good.

Patricia married Amos Lee Loudermilk on May 26, 1979, in Benton, Kan.

She retired from Westar Energy in 2002 where she was a customer service representative in Wichita, Kan.

Patricia was a member of the United Penticostal Church in Shawnee.

Particia is preceded in death by her parents, her father died, January 20, 1987 and her mother died, October 28, 2000. She is also preceded in death by one brother, Franklin J. Good.

Patricia leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Amos Lee Loudermilk of the home; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Herbert and Opal Loudermilk of Maud; one son and daughter-in-law, Jason L. and Maria Loudermilk of Killeen, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Lezlea L. and Mike Creason of Okmulgee; one brother and sister-in-law, David L. and Donna Good of Benton, Kan.; one sister and brother-in-law, Frances L. and Don Stearns of Fridley, Minn.; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Phyllis and David Hurst of Houston, Texas; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill and Bobbie Loudermilk of Bartlesville and Tom and Sue Loudermilk of Bixby; six grandchildren, Kayla Loudermilk, Whitney Creason, Kimberly Carter, Lacey Creason, Lindsey Creason and Katelyn Creason; three great-grandchildren, Mackenzziee Creason, Dennis Carter and Isaac Carter; and a host of other family and friends.

Open visitation will be held from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday and until the service time on Thursday.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole. Burial will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud with the Rev. M. Cornwell and the Rev. V. Bowman officiating.

Gilbert (Ted) Francis Brugman

Meeker resident Gilbert (Ted) Francis Brugman passed away peacefully at home on April 29, 2007.
He was born May 11, 1917, in Lone Tree, Iowa, to John and Bernadine (TeVoert) Brugman. He was the youngest of 10 children. Gilbert went to school in Lone Tree.

On Sept. 9, 1946, he married Anna Marie Shetler at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Muscatine, Iowa.

Gilbert spent his early years farming in Muscatine then moved to Shirland, Ill., to continue his farming profession. He then was employed by Borg-Warner Corp., Rockford, Ill., at which time he moved his family to Roscoe, Ill. He retired from Borg-Warner Corp in 1969.

Gilbert and Anna moved from Roscoe to Meeker in 1997 to be close to their daughter. For 17 years Gilbert and Anna have spent their winter months in Brownsville, Texas, at Winterhaven Resort. Gilbert belonged to Free Riders Motorcycle Club, Winnebago Farm Bureau, Roscoe Snowmobile Club, and was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Shawnee. In 2004 he developed early stages of Alzheimer disease.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Anna, of the home; two sons, James Brugman of Rockford, Ill., Daniel Brugman and wife, Gail, of Roscoe, Ill; daughter, JoAnn Craig of Meeker; grandchildren, Jim, Patrick, Jolene, Jason, and Joseph Brugman all of Illinois and Jodi Craig of Meeker; 12 great grandchildren from Illinois and Wisconsin.

Services will be noon today at St. Benedict's Catholic Church with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Billy Dean Stearman

Longtime Shawnee resident Billy Dean Stearman, 78, passed away, Thursday, April 26, at his home in rural Independence, Mo.
Billy, son of George William and Thelma Marguerite Stearman was born July 2, 1928, in an oil field "tent city" in St. Louis.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Norma Jean (Mills) Stearman; two daughters, Belinda DeAun Young and husband, Dennis, of Buckner, Mo., Judy Graham and husband, Jim, of Baumholder, Germany; two sons, Michael and wife, Paula, of Shawnee and Jerry and wife, Lisa, of Mountainburg, Ark; two sisters, Martha Joy Wall of Anaheim, Calif., and Romona DeAun Wilson of Shawnee; one brother, Doyle Keith Stearman of Shawnee; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Community of Christ Church in Seminole.


Eunice Marie Stanfill

Longtime Seminole resident Eunice Marie Stanfill, 79, died Saturday, April 28, at the VA Regional Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Service will be 2 p.m. today at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, 100 W. Strothers, Seminole, with Chris Stinnett officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery north of Seminole.

Midwest City resident Lamarr Kenneth Hunter, 55, died Friday, April 27.

Fleeta O. Greenwood

Former Shawnee resident Fleeta O. Greenwood, 91, died Monday, April 30, in Midland, Texas.
She was born Nov. 24, 1915, in Eastland, Texas, to Willie Almer Rhodes and Nellie Mae (Willard) Rhodes.

Fleeta was married in 1935 to Hillard "Baron" Greenwood. They were married 43 years.

She spent much of her life working with those who had developmental disabilities, establishing a thrift shop and serving on the board of directors for the South Central Sheltered Workshops. She also was supportive of the Faith 7 Activity Center's students and a member at St. Paul's United Methodist Church

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers, Lawrence, Philmore "Shine" and Haskell "Pots".

Survivors include one son, Keith Greenwood and wife Rhonda of Midland, Texas; two grandchildren, James Greenwood of Roundrock, Texas, and Tracy Greenwood of Midland; three step-grandchildren, Shonna Garcia of Midland, Erica Moran of Odessa, Texas, and Chad Self of Midland; two great-grandchildren, Scott Greenwood of Dallas, Texas, and Ashley Moshell of Frisco, Texas; one great-great-grandchild, Luke Sawyer Moshell of Frisco; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and one brother, Bill Rhodes of Florida.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Elnora Lola Remley

Shawnee resident Elnora Lola Remley, 78, died Tuesday, May 1, at Unity North Hospital.
She was born Jan. 3, 1929, to Cashe and Minnie (Braun) Miller, in Springfield, Ohio.

She married Floyd Remley in January 1952 and they spent 44 wonderful years together when he passed on Nov. 10, 1995.

Elnora loved traveling around the United States and Canada, and she loved flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother; Aunt, Lena Rust.

Survivors include her children, Catherine Shanaway and husband, Richard, of Shawnee, Karen Brewster and husband, Mark, of Michigan, Sandra Bazydlo and husband, Alex, of Florida, Floyd Allen Remley and wife, Debra, of Michigan, and Robert Remley, of Michigan; Sister, Mable Harner of Texas; Grandchildren, Carrie Hunt and husband, Craig, Sarah Donaho and husband, Kevin, Amanda Shanaway, Danielle Reynolds, Molly Remley, Alexander Remley, Rayna Brewster, Keegan Brewster, Lindsey Bazydlo, and Shelby Bazydlo; great-grandchildren, Connor Donaho, McKayla Hunt, and Aurora Reynolds; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

William E. "Bill" Stasyszen

Tecumseh resident William E. "Bill" Stasyszen, 82, died Friday, May 4, surrounded by members of his family and sustained by prayer. Deeply rooted in his Catholic faith, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, employee and volunteer.

He was born on May 19, 1924, in Fort Worth, Texas. Bill grew up in Harrah, where he attended St. Teresa Catholic Church.

Bill married Gloria E. Junk on October 15, 1949, and they shared a beautiful, loving and life-giving marriage until her death on Sept. 14, 2005. They spent most of their married life near Tecumseh, where they raised their five sons. Bill and Gloria were faithful members of St. Benedict Catholic Parish in Shawnee.

Bill served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the South Pacific Theater of Operations. Honorably discharged at the end of the war, he worked for a short time as an auto body repairman. He then was employed at Central Plastics Company in Shawnee as a machine operator for over thirty years until his retirement in 1988.

He was a devoted husband and father who took a keen interest in the activities of his children, from coaching their little league baseball teams, to assisting with their 4-H Club projects, to supporting their activities as adults. After retirement he enjoyed traveling extensively with his wife Gloria, visiting all fifty states. He was an avid and successful gardener and was a member of the American Legion. Quiet by nature, he was a man of prayer and enjoyed being in the midst of his extended circle of family and friends.

Mr. Stasyszen was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria; his eldest son, Pete; his parents; Mike and Martha Stasyszen; and several siblings.

Bill is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Bill II and Jonna Stasyszen of Shelbyville, Ky., Joe and Marla Stasyszen of Chandler, Rick and Monica Stasyszen of The Woodlands, Texas, the Rt. Rev. Lawrence Stasyszen, OSB, of St. Gregory's Abbey in Shawnee, and Jeannita Stasyszen of Meeker, OK; his grandchildren, Jandi and husband, Karlen, Bill III, Jason and wife, Andrea, Philip, Sarah and husband, Nate, Dusty, Mark, Jeff, Alex and Emily; his great-grandchildren, Noah, Aaron, Wesley, Alicia, and Allison; his brother, John and wife, Rosemary Stasyszen; sisters-in-law, Bernice Foree and Evelyn Ekroat; brother-in-law, Dan Hymes; and many nieces and nephews.

A Vigil of Prayer for the deceased will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Shawnee, with burial following at Calvary Cemetery.

Jack H. Davis

Lifelong Tecumseh resident Jack H. Davis, 71, died Saturday, May 5, in Shawnee.
He was born Aug. 9, 1935, to Artle and Opal (Kendle) Davis in Tecumseh.

He attended school at Tecumseh and on Sept. 11, 1952, he married Frances D. Cope.

He worked in the oilfield for many years, ran his own small engine repair shop, and worked at Harvey's GMC for years. He also was involved with the Tecumseh Youth Program, was an avid golfer and enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mark Davis; grandson, Grant Marshall Phelps; and brother, Delbert Davis.

Survivors include his wife, Frankie Davis of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Bud Phelps, Dana and Tim Montgomery, both of Tecumseh; seven grandchildren, Chad and Lindsey Phelps of Shawnee, Greg and Jennifer Davis of Tecumseh, Lance and Jana Phelps of Tecumseh, Jaclyn Davis of Midwest City, Ashley Montgomery of Tecumseh, Hunter Montgomery of Tecumseh, and Blake Phelps of Pensacola, Fla.; six great-grandchildren, Jackson Phelps, Riley Phelps, Haylee Cobb, Jocelyn Phelps, Makenna Phelps, and Whitlee Davis; sister, Wanda Fletcher of Norman; one niece and two nephews.

Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Chad Brodrick officiating.

Charles James Self 

Oklahoma City resident Charles James Self, 75, passed away Thursday, May 3.

He was born June 24, 1931.

Charles was a Corporal in the U. S. Army and served during the Korean War era. He retired after 30 years at the FAA as a Master Cabinet Maker. His favorite job was with Ray Daniels at Rays Auto. Charles dedicated his life to serving the Lord since March 1960 as a member of the Assemble of Yahweh and attended service at Church of God 7th Day in Del City. Fluent in Spanish, he recently traveled to Mexico with his best friend Arturo, on a mission trip, to take clothes and bikes to children in need.

He was survived by his wife of 54 years, Sarah Self; children, Janie and Jack Williams Porter and Nancy Self, Corby and Donna Self, Darla and Eric Stevenson; 17 grandchildren; four great-granddaughter; numerous other relatives whom he loved and adored.

The family will received friends 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today.

Service will be 9 a.m. Monday at Advantage (405)682-1682 Chapel, 7720 S. Penn. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Boyce Edwin Williams

Prague resident Boyce Edwin Williams, 85, departed this life Sunday, May 6, in Prague.
He was born May 3, 1922, to John Rube and Clarabel (Daniel) Williams, in Belmont.

He graduated from Prague High School with the class of 1940 and attended Southwestern State for two years.

He married Agnes Jones on January 5, 1944, in Shawnee. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in January. They lived in Bartlesville for several years.

Boyce proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II during which time he was engaged in combat during the invasion of Kiska Island, Aleutians, and was in the major offensive against the German Gothic Line. Boyce was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

He retired from Eason Oil Company in Crescent in 1986 where he was the transportation manager and returned to Prague. Boyce was a member of the American Legion, a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge at Bartlesville, a member of the Akdar Shrine in Tulsa, and a member of the View of the Cross Church in Prague.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes Williams of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald S. and Joyce Williams of Amarillo, Texas, Philip E. and Gail Williams of Lansing, Mich., Keith and Angie Williams of Wagoner; grandchildren, Chad, Renee, Heather, Kristen, Philip, Jr., Megan, and Katy; five great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Gail and Betty Williams of Terrell, Texas; sisters, Elnora Munn of Hawthorne, Calif., Evelyn Branscum of Mantica, Calif.

Patricia Marie Kirby

Shawnee resident Patricia Marie Kirby, 67, died Saturday, May 5, in Shawnee.
She was born Oct. 21, 1939, to Lonnie Cagle and Nannie Thornton in Checotah.

She attended Onapa High School near Checotah.

Patricia married Clarence Kirby on May 17, 1957.

She worked as an Administrative Assistant, a Jailer for the Shawnee Police Dept., and as a Pastor of the Pentecostal Lighthouse Church. She enjoyed singing and taking care of others. She was very involved in both her church and her church family. She loved her family including her grandkids and spending time with them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Darrel Cagle, Ernest Cagle, Harold Cagle, and Reighley (Shorty) Cagle; one son, Robert Douglas Kirby.

Survivors include her son, Danny Kirby and Jim Kirby; daughter-in-law, Lori Kirby; grandkids, Nathan Kirby, Jaime Kirby, Jordan Kirby, Justine Kirby, Caitlin Kirby, and Jaclyn Kirby; brother, Edward Cagle; sisters, Estella Quinten, Leora Hodges, and Florence Cole; former husband and current best friend, Clarence Kirby; many other loving relatives and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Carl Upton and the Rev. Edward Cagle. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Charlotte Mae Treece

Shawnee resident Charlotte Mae Treece, 58, passed away Sunday, May 6, at Unity North Hospital.
She was born July 23, 1948, in Arizona.

She married Harold Lee Treece Sr., in 1965. They enjoyed many years together before he passed in 2001.

She loved taking care of her family, but most of all, she enjoyed being a grandma.

She is survived by her children, Harold Lee Treece Jr., of Shawnee, Wesley Earl Treece Sr., of Shawnee, Benjamin Cullen Treece of Venita, Nila Mae Treece of Shawnee, Danny Ray Jones Treece of Shawnee, Dennis Wayne Jones Treece of Asher; brother, Earl Cullen Combs of Shawnee; 14 grandchildren; her sister in spirit, Doris and all her friends at Loving Care.

Charlotte will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.

George Lee Yarbrough

Shawnee resident George Lee Yarbrough, 86, died Saturday, May 5, in Shawnee.
He was born on July 26, 1920, to George Ernest and Florence Louise (King) Yarbrough in Shawnee.

He graduated from Bethel High School and received bachelor and master degree in literature from Oklahoma A&M.

On Nov. 30, 1946, he married Ruth Irene Spears in Shawnee.

Though he traveled much of the world, he lived most of his life on the land where he was born. Following his marriage, they lived for a short time in Caracas, Venezuela, but moved home to rear their three children in the Bethel area.

In World War II, he served with the Army Air Corps in the Mediterranean theatre as a bombardier aboard B17 bombers. He flew 68 combat missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal.

His primary occupation was school teacher, from which he retired after 25 years of service in the Tecumseh School system.

His retirement afforded him the opportunity to travel extensively, mostly to Spanish speaking countries. He loved languages and continued his studies through international workshops. At the age of 80, George was awarded by the Worldwide Teachers Development Institute in Guadalajara, Mexico, the Boston Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certificate.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Ann Mayes in 1986; his wife in 1993; and his daughter-in-law, Linda Kay Yarbrough in 2004.

Survivors include his son, Gary Yarbrough; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and David Henry; grandchildren, Steve Yarbrough and wife, Elisha; Mandy Yarbrough Bloomfield and husband, Ronnie; Mark Mayes and wife, Sarah; Jill Mayes Sais and husband, Al; T. J. Mayes; Kerri Henry Mathews and husband, Chad; and Joe Henry and wife, Chrissy; great-granchildren, Jonathan, James, Lorelei and Landry Yarbrough; Kelcie Carpenter; Brook Bloomfield; Jay Carpenter; Pete and Luke Mayes; Jaxson Mathews, and ValeriaAnn Sais; brother, Ed Yarbrough; and host of other relatives.

Beulah D. Kinnamon

Shawnee resident Beulah D. Kinnamon died Monday, May 7, at her home at the age of 83.
She was born March 18, 1924, in Okemah to Earl and Lee (Oxley) Guinn.

Beulah attended and graduated from Shawnee High School. She attended business school prior to moving to Richmond, Calif.

On Oct. 9, 1943, she married Robert Samuel Kinnamon in Richmond.

Beulah worked beside her husband at the P.D.Q. store, the first convenience store in Shawnee. They later moved the business to Meeker where it became the B&R Food Town.

Beulah was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church and a long standing member of the North Rock Creek Home Extension Club. She was a member of the Hi-Noon Business and Professional Women's Club. She held many offices and she supported her children in their accomplishments of 4-h Club exhibits in the county fairs. Beulah worked with North Rock Creek School helping teach ceramics to students. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren teaching them how to sew, make cookies, crochet and do ceramics.

Preceding her in death were her husband; her parents; her eldest son, Robert Earl Kinnamon and her sisters, Vesta Sparks, Earlene Perry and Wanda Sangster.

Survivors include three children, Janice Gett of Oklahoma City, Donna Wright of Norman, and Ron Kinnamon and his wife, Diana, of Meeker; nine grandchildren: Terry Kinnamon and his wife Michelle of Oklahoma City, Kelli Kinnamon of Edmond, Stephanie Groutas and her husband Mark of Austin, Texas, Suzanne Morrison and her husband Chris of Del City, Jeffery Gett of Oklahoma City, Julie Michelle Cornelius of Oklahoma City, Brandi Smith of Atlanta, Ga., Joshua Kinnamon of Seminole, and Jeremy Kinnamon of Meeker; two brothers-in-law, Mace Perry of Oklahoma City and Houston Sangster of Earlsboro; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service will be 10 a.m. today at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Gary Nickerson officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Casket will remain open until service time and will not be opened after service.


Caryol J. Smith

Former Shawnee resident Caryol J. Smith, 64, departed this life to meet her precious Jesus face-to-face on Monday, May 7, at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa.
She was born March 14, 1943, to Otis Lee Johnston and Ruby Alice Gaddy Johnston in Oklahoma City.

Caryol attended Catoosa High School and was the president and salutatorian of her 1961 graduating class. Caryol then attended Business College in Oklahoma City. She was briefly employed by Kerr McGee Oil Company. In April 2006, she retired from Tinker Air Force Base after twenty years of service.

Caryol served her Lord as pianist for her much loved Morning Star Baptist Church in Meeker for many years. She recently moved from Shawnee to Broken Arrow to live near her family, and be full-time Grandma to her precious grandchildren, Emily and Tyler. They were the light of her life. She was currently a member of Haikey Park Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Otis L. Johnston; her sister, Barbara Weeks and her niece, Tawna Weeks.

Survivors include her two sons, Jeffrey Smith and Jerrod Smith and wife, Tracy, all of Broken Arrow; one daughter, Jana Day and husband, Kenny, of Broken Arrow; one sister, Marcella Pense and husband, Elmer, of Broken Arrow; two granchildren, Emily and Tyler; former husband, Ted L. Smith of Wagoner; a host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces and a tremendous host of friends.

Service will be 10 a.m. today at Morning Star Baptist Church in Meeker and 3:30 p.m. today at Haikey Park Baptist Church in Bixby. Burial will follow at Bixby Cemetery with the Rev. Shawnee resident Ralph F. Griggs, 72, died Tuesday, May 8, in a local hospital.
He was born June 20, 1934, to Jim Roy Griggs and Jessie (O'Neal) Griggs in Stanford, Texas.

He married Mary Hurst April 27, 1972.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

He owned a business building electronic circuit boards. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and working on cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Martha Jane Hawkins

Lifelong Shawnee resident Martha Jane Hawkins, 88, died Thursday, May 10, peacefully at her home.
She was born Nov. 20, 1918, to Robert Lee and Ella Mae (Covey) Renega in Shawnee.

She attended Shawnee High School.

She married Henry Leland Hawkins Nov. 14, 1946, they enjoyed 47 years together before he passed away January 1994.

She loved to sew, crotchet, cook, and most of all, take care of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, R.L. and Wilburn Renegar; sister, Elizabeth Brewer; son, Leland Hawkins; daughter, Helen Collins; and son-in-law, Larry Byrd.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Byrd; grandchildren, Bryan Byrd, Travis Hawkins, Shelly Wise, and Phil Jackson; 10 great-grandchildren; two sister-in-law, May Renegar and Faye Renegar.

Doyle Oliver Vanderburg

Oklahoma City resident Doyle Oliver Vanderburg, 92, Wednesday, May 9, in an Oklahoma City hospital.
He was born Dec. 3, 1914, in Wynnewood to Newton Vanderburg and Lillie (Sterling) Vanderburg.

He married Lola Bowen. After her death he married Mary Dean Tingler.

Doyle worked most of his life as a warehouse manager at Tinker Air Force Base.

He was a member of South Lindsey Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. He was awarded the #1 Fan of Senior Softball.

He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; one sister, Helen Oxley; four brothers, Lloyd, Orville, Troy and Woody Vanderburg; and one daughter, Marie Conley.

Survivors include his three children, Bobby Doyle Vanderburg and wife, Maralyn, of Oklahoma City, Linda Kay Locke and husband, Alan, of Topeka, Kan., Lucy Belle of Calif., 17 grandchildren; many, many great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Mooneyham of Georgia.; three brothers, Odell Vanderburg and wife, Mary Ella, of Shawnee, Bobby Gene Vanderburg and wife, Wilma, of Lake Texhoma, Billy Dean Vanderburg and wife, Myrna, of Oklahoma City; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Nick Vance Vieux

Sacramento Calif., resident Nick Vieux, 56, passed from this life Friday, April 20, at his home.
Nick was born Aug. 7, 1951, to Florence (Duncan) Vieux and Charles Vieux in Sacramento.

Nick and Joanna Hoyle-Davis had a private commitment ceremony on June 15, 1972, in Yuba City, Calif.

Nick spent most of his childhood in California with his mother. After marrying Joanna, they had one child, Mary Kate Vieux and moved to St. Louis, Okla., where Nick began working for his father in the oil field at Double "E" Well Service in St. Louis. The Nick Vieux family then moved back to California. Nick began driving a transport for Crystal Milk Factory and did so for 18 years.

Nick was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Martin and his father, Charles Vieux.

As Nick starts his journey he leaves behind one daughter and two grandsons, Mary Kate Vieux, Joshua Davis and Jasper Kelly, all of Columbia, Calif.; ex-wife, Joanna Holyle-Davis, Columbia, Calif.; four sisters, Charlene (Vieux) Killian of St. Louis, Clarice (Vieux) Murdock of St. Louis, Elizabeth Vieux of Shawnee and Teresa Vieux of Tecumseh; two generations of nephews, nieces and other family members and friends.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Old Vieux Place in St. Louis.

Cynthia Gail Talton, 40 year old Earlsboro resident passed from this life Tuesday, May 8, in Shawnee. She was born Sept. 24, 1966, in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Mac Easley and Eleanor (Talton) Easley.

She was a member of Galilee Baptist Church in Shawnee and she had attended Earlsboro Schools.

Cynthia is preceded in death by one daughter, Taznarika Talton.

Frances Leah Ross Hofeld

Midwest City resident Frances Leah Ross Hofeld, 82, passed away from this life Wednesday, May 9, in Midwest City.
She was born June 5, 1924.

Frances grew up near Bethel and on Dec. 24, 1945 married the love of her life, Alfred. One of Frances' greatest joys in life was being with her family. In addition to her own children, Frances and Alfred helped to raise a younger brother and a niece. She was an active member of Dickson Baptist Church for several decades, Frances taught a ladies' Sunday school class and especially enjoyed activities with the other senior adults. During a long career at AT&T, Frances was a respected supervisor and instructor.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Alfred L. Hofeld; their son, Danny; her parents; four brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include son, Lewis Hofeld and his wife, Beverly, of Midwest City; two grandsons; six great-granchildren; one sister, Avis Paxson of Tecumseh; and one brother, Bill Ross of Pittsburg, Calif..

Sue Ann Sharp

Yukon resident Sue Ann Sharp, 69, passed away Thursday, May 10, in Oklahoma City after a lengthy battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).
She was born Oct. 26, 1937, to Alfred and Ruby (Barnhart) Nalley in Wewoka. Sue moved to Yukon in June 1965 coming from Oklahoma City.

She was a homemaker and substitute teacher. Sue also was employed in the family business, Mid-America Sales and Marketing, Sears Credit Central and Local Federal. As her illness progressed, Sue enjoyed listening to Christian programs and music, and having her husband, Carl, read to her from the Bible.

She was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church, she loved to cook, take care of her grandchildren and watch NASCAR on television.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Dwaine Sharp of the home; son, Carl Sharp Jr.; daughters Sheryl Sharp of Aurora, Ill., and Mickey Westfahl and husband, Dennis, of Okeene; two brothers; two sisters; and six grandchildren, Jeff Westfahl and wife, Atsuko, Jeremy Mason and wife, Natashia, Nicole Sykes, Eric Sykes, Sara Sharp and Carl Sharp III.
