Elk City paper,
April 30, 1936

Funeral services for John J. Phelps, pioneer settler of this country, were held Wednesday afternoon at the First Baptist church with Rev. George C. Hutto, conducting the final rites.
Mr. Phelps died Tuesday, April 28, at a local hospital following a two week's illness from pneumonia. He was a pioneer farmer of this area, having filed on a homestead three miles northeast of the city. He had retired from farm work and resided at 409 North Main street.
He is survived by his widow, four sons and two daughters, J.W. Phelps and G.C. Phelps of Delevan, Kansas; C.W. Phelps and C.J. Phelps, Elk City; Mrs. A.A. Austin, Elk City; and Mrs. Ruben Wheelden, Marshall, Ill.
Mr. Phelps was born February 15, 1851, at Salem, North Carolina.
Burial was in Fairlawn cemetery.

Phelps, Mary Amanda
Mrs. Mary Amanda Phelps, 85-year-old pioneer, died late Saturday in a local hospital. Funeral services probably will be held Monday at the First Baptist church with Rev. George C. Hutto, pastor, officiating. Time for the rites had not been announced pending arrival of relatives.
Mrs. Phelps had made her home with her son, Corey Phelps, of Canute.
She was born September 7, 1853 in Virginia and came to this section in 1898. She had been a resident here since that time.
She was a member of the Baptist church.
Mrs. Phelps is survived by four sons and two daughters. They are Corey Phelps, Canute; Willie Phelps, Delvan (actually Delavan), Kans; Grover Phelps, Harrington (actually Herington), Kans; Mrs. A. A. Austin, Pueblo, Colo; Charles Phelps, Elk City; and Mrs. Lola Whelldon (actually Wheeldon), Palestine, Ill.
Two sisters Mrs. Emma Straton, Hellack, Nevada and Mrs. Fannie Van Camp, Brunswick, Mo., and one brother, William Fitzwater, Lucena, Mo. also survive.
Other survivors include twenty-one grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Burial will be in Fairlawn cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Phelps, 85-year-old pioneer, were held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the First Baptist church here with Rev. George C. Hutto, officiating.
Interment was made in the Fairlawn cemetery.
Mrs. Phelps died late Saturday in a local hospital. She made her home with her son Corey Phelps in Canute, Surviving are four sons, Corey Phelps, Canute, Willie Phelps, Delvan, Kans,; Grover Phelps, Harrington, Kans.; Charles Phelps, Elk City; and two daughters, Mrs. A.A. Austin, Pueblo, Colo.; and Mrs. Lola Whelldon, Palestine, Ill.

Family to Honor McARTHUR’S On Anniversary
Jack and Irene McARTHUR will be honored for their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 to 5 PM, Sunday, Dec 19, at the Assembly of God Church, Sweetwater. Hosting the event will be their children and their families. The McARTHUR’S have 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. McARTHUR were married Dec 24, 1932 at the Assembly of God Church, where their golden anniversary will be celebrated.
