Devastated By Fierce Cyclone Garvin County Experiences The First Genuine Destructive Cyclone. Those who have never seen the effects of a genuine tornado or cyclone cannot appreciate what a visit from one of these terrors means. Description always fails to tell the exact story. This is quite true in the following account of the worst storm that ever occurred in this part of the country, that which began at McCarty Friday evening at about 6 o'clock and swept north eastward to Paoli a distance of about ten or twelve miles.
The storm gathered slowly and all persons in the vicinity swept by it, had ample time and warning to get into their storm cellars, with which every one in that part of the county is provided. The Editor was on the scene early Saturday morning and witnessed a sight which he is unable to describe. Houses were utterly ground into kindling and scattered for miles, fragments of wearing apparel and bed clothing could be seen hanging on broken twigs or lodged on fences for miles. Barb wires were blown from the posts and stung out across fields, even fence posts were broken off or pulled out of the ground. The following account by our Brady correspondent who was a witness to the storm, given some idea of the destructiveness.
Below is a list of killed and injured in the cyclone which wiped McCarty off the map May 20th.

Partially destroyed:
Amos JUSTICE barn and out buildings.
Mr. RUTLEDGE house set off of blocks.

Mr. WHITE one house and outbuildings.
Mr. KELLEY sheds unroofed. Mrs. CLAYTON sheds and out buildings, unroofed house moved off foundation.
Number of live stock killed unknown. Found to date 10 head of cattle, one jack and six head of horses, 16 heads of hogs and chickens that reached up to 400 head.
The scene at the center of the cyclone cannot be described, because it is impossible to sit and imagine a more complete scene of destruction. Of the houses that were blown away there remains not a piece of them that is large enough to rebuild a chicken coop. Trees 1 1-2 ft. through were twisted off and the bark peeled off them. Of the Big school house that the district felt proud, nothing remains on the ground but the bell and wood pile. The People in the track of the cyclone had plenty of warning in time to get to the dugouts accounts for the fact that more hurt. All that were hurt were on the outside. The people here are in hard circumstances. They will have to have everything that it takes to live on and to farm with, fixed up for them again.
Wynnewood was the first to be on the ground with assistance. They landed Sunday morning with a lot of supplies which were needed. They have made up $450.00 up to date of money and supplies. Mr. W.W. KEILY, Will TURNER and Will WARD took charge of the supplies and supplied all who needed help as far as they could.
The citizens of Brady met Sunday night and appointed C.O. MINOR to the Valley and J.W. ADAMS to Wynnewood to attend to the wants of the suffers and see about getting the supplies on the ground. John ROADY was appointed treasurer and will make his report later.
Among the many freaks of the storm were where it picked up a hay bailer and a binder and carried them about 30 feet and set them down again upside down. Several wagons among them two new ones in which every wheel was destroyed axles broken and twisted off. Irons twisted in two and broke. Two new buggies all they have found of them are part of a single tree and piece of dashboard. Plows and cultivators were bent and twisted out of shape so that they can never be used again.
At Mr. DEWBERRY'S place there were two rolls of new hog wire that he had never opened. The storm unrolled it and tied it up in knots.
Two of Mr. SHUTTES cows were picked up and carried 1-2 mile and one of them had barb wire enough wound around her neck to reach 100 yards.
We sent to Wynnewood by Mr. GLOVER a chicken to have a photo taken of it, it had a tablespoon run through its neck twice and wrapped around it.
Mrs. Bill McCARTY and her little baby were picked up in the yard and dropped in the door of the dugout without serious injury to either of them except nearly stripping them of their clothes.
Martin DEWBERRY, whose wife was killed, was practically unhurt. He and his wife and Miss Etta McCARTY were out in the yard laying on the ground locked in each others arms. The wind took the two women up, killed Mrs. DEWBERRY and bruised Miss McCARTY but left him unhurt..
The people in that district need tents to shelter them until they can get up buildings again, fences rebuilt, and crops replanted.
The next day and night after the cyclone was followed by a heavy rain and hail and has been raining and cloudy ever since.

Frank N. PREUITT Is Shot To Death While Standing In Front Of Leland Hotel Monday Evening.
Robert O. PEEVEY, age 42, is now in jail, with charges of frist degree murder. Peevey surrender to Sheriff C.F. WORLEY. No reason was given for shooting.
Remains will be carried to Greenville, Texas for burial.

October 13, 1921

Frank N. PREUITT, died Oct. 3, 1921, age 40 years and 6 months, and was buried at East Mount Cemetery.
He was born in Gilmer, Texas on April 23, 1822. He moved to Greenville, Texas at age 8 yrs. In 1906 he married Miss Evelyn BOND.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his mother Mrs. J.L. BECKHAM; Brother, Sam Preuitt; Sister, Miss verna Beckham; and Mrs. Will WOOD; Will Preuitt of Virginia.

February 6, 1930

Gus Wright Gus WRIGHT, father of Mrs. J.D. MCCHESNEY, of this city, died at the home of a sister, Mrs. Nellie BRACKEN, of Gainesville, Texas, Friday evening at 10 o'clock, following an illness of two weeks.
Mr. WRIGHT had resided in Montana up until the past three years, when he had been visiting relatives in Texas and Oklahoma.
Funeral services were held at the Bracken residence Sunday afternoon. Foreman, Jr., pastor of the First Baptist church officiating. Interment was made in Fairview cemetery at Gainesville, under the direction of George J. CARROLL.
Mr. WRIGHT is survived by three children, Mrs. John MCCHESNEY of this city, Will WRIGHT, of Perryton, Texas and Homer WRIGHT, Panama, Central America.
Deceased was 77 years of age and was a member of the First Methodist church.

Wynnewood Pioneer Passes Away Sunday
Mrs. GARDNER, widow of the late Uncle Jimmy GARDNER, passed away at Wynnewood Sunday morning after a lingering illness at the age of 68 years.
Surviving are four children, One by a former marriage, Ben NORMAN, now being Under Sheriff of Garvin county and resides in Pauls Valley. Burial took place at Wynnewood Monday.

Y.E. TAYLOR Jr. left Monday for San Diego, California Where he goes to enter the United States Naval Training school for a term of years. He will enter the radio division preparing himself for service in this department of the Navy.

Pioneer Ranchman Called By Death
Jesse REAVES Native of Arkansas Came Before The Opening Of Oklahoma
Funeral services for Jesse REAVES who passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.R HUGHES at Oklahoma City Monday, Feb. 17, were held in the Methodist church here Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. Walter DOUGLASS, the pastor, Rev. TUCKER of the Presbyterian church and Rev. BAUCOM of the Baptist church.
Jesse REAVES was born at Pine Bluff, Arkansas March 16, 1858 and was nearly 77 years old at the time of his death. He moved with his father's family to Honey Grove, Texas, where he was later married. With his family, he came to Indian Territory in 1887, two years before the opening of Oklahoma. He was engaged in ranching near Pauls Balley for several years. He purchased the Commercial hotel, later known as the Hampton and now the Rice, which he operated several years. Mrs. REAVES passed away about four years ago.
There were born to Mr. and Mrs. REAVES five children, A.T. REAVES, Shawnee; Mrs. John GIBSON, Pauls Valley; Mrs. E.R. HUGHES, Oklahoma City; Mrs. Roger ADAMS, Shilder, Oklahoma; and Bailey REAVES who passed away a few years ago from injuries received in the World War. Deceased was a brother of Rev. J.B. REAVES of Pauls Valley.

C.F. STEWART Dies Tuesday
Funeral services were held at the Wynnewood Funeral Home Wednesday at 3 0'clock for Chas. F. STEWART, who passed away Tuesday afternoon at the home of his son, Earl STEWART, at the age of 76 years, 7 days. Rev. A.S CAMERON conducted the services. Pall bearers were E.L. COURTNEY, Roy BRANBAM, John JENNINGS, Jim Lanham, Henry PERRY and Fonce HUNT.
The death of Charles F. STEWART marks the passing of one of the first citizens of the town of Wynnewood. In 1885, when the Santa Fe definitely designated this place with a depot, the little village of Cherokee Town, eight miles north on the banks of the Washita river, moved over, the postmaster taking charge here. Mr. STEWART had the first confectionery store.
Charles Folsom STEWART was the eldest son of Wiley STEWART and Nancy Folsom STEWART and was born near the old town of Bennington in Blue county, new Bryan county, Choctaw nation. His mother was one of the first citizens of the Indian Territory to move to the Choctaw nation from Mayhew, Miss. with her parents in (looks like 1822 or1882) at the age of 3. His father came from Knoxville, Tenn, as a young man in 1833 to the Indian Territory, where in 1847, he married Nancy FOLSOM. Charley grew up and was educated in the schools of Indian Territory. He married in 1878, Josephine HARRIS, daughter of Capt. J.D. HARRIS, superintendent of education for the Chickasaws and sister of Gov. Bob HARRIS of the Chickasaw Nation. Mr. STEWART served as a member of the Indian police, and had also been deputy U.S. Marshal. He reared to manhood and womanhood four sons and one daughter who are married and living in Garvin county. He also is survived by his wife. Mr. STEWART lived the colorful and st?aring life of the old Indian Territory regime, where life was lived free and untrammeled and every man was a law unto himself.

Get Ready For The 1930 CENSUS_TAKERS
The Fifteenth Decennial Census of the United States will be taken during the months of April. The enumeration will be made by a force of about 100,000 enumerators who will go from house to house and secure the information required for the census. Every person is to be enumerated, so far as possible, at his "usual place of abode" or the place where he usually lives. Where individual members of a family are away from home at the time the census is taken they will be reported to the enumerator by other members of the family. For cases where it is known in advance that the whole family will be away from home at that time, special provision has been made by the Director of the Census in the form of an absent family schedule which is to be filed out by some responsible member of the family in advance of the Census date and transmitted to the local supervisor of the census. A copy of this schedule can be secured by application to Mr. Aaron MCDANIEL, Supervisor, Norman, Okla. who is census supervisor for this district.
Families planning to be away during the month of April, leaving the home closed or with no one in charge who is qualified to give the census information to the enumerator, are urged to obtain one of these schedules at once and to fill it out and send it to Mr. McDaniel at the earliest possible date. The information furnished on this schedule will be treated as confidential and will be used only for the tabulation of statistics which will not reveal any information with regard to individuals or families.

F.J. PEARCE Funeral Held Thursday P.M.
Funeral services for Major Franklin J. PEARCE were held Thursday afternoon.
A brief service at the home consisting of a prayer by Rev. Walter DOUGLASS and a solo by Tom CONNER, was concluded at the grave in the Foster cemetery.
Hundreds of old time friends, many of whom had known Maj. PEARCE during his 50 year residence at Foster, where he was engaged in the mercantile business, gathered in a tribute of respect to their deceased friend.
The body was interred beside those of three children who had preceded. While there were six brothers and two sisters in the PEARCE family, only one brother and one sister now survive, they being residents of North Carolina and were unable to attend the funeral.
A rather remarkable fact is that three of Major PEARCE'S nephews are Methodist preachers.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Walter DOUGLASS, pastor of the Methodist Church of which Major PEARCE had been a member several years.

Maysville Woman Dies
The body of Mrs. Billie BRUSS was received here Monday by the Stuffisbean Mayor undertakers, and taken out to maysville where funeral and interment took place Monday afternoon.
Mrs. BRUSS was a sister to Mrs. Robert DAVENPORT of Maysville where she had other relatives also. She had been in the employ of one of the big hotels in Chicago.

Maysville Doctor Passes Away
Dr. W.A. LOGAN, 53, practicing physician at Maysville passed away at the residence in Maysville Monday after an illness of nearly a year. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church at Maysville conducted by the pastor Rev. Moses WHITTINGTON Tuesday after which the body was taken to the old home at Lehigh for burial.
Surviving Doctor LOGAN are his wife and two sons, one 19, the other 13.

J.W. THOMAS Of Elmore City Dies
J.W. (James Wesley) Thomas, 72, Elmore City, died Thursday night in the Wynnewood hospital following a two year illness of cancer.
Thomas came to Oklahomain 1930 from Arkansas and made his home in Elmore City. He is a member of the Methodist church and a member of Masonic lodge No. 533.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Methodist church at Elmore City with Rev. S.W. Wylie, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Elmore City cemetery with Yeary-Vaughn Funeral home handling the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. J.W. (Al'Meda (Allie) Mariann Brown) Thomas, Elmore City; one daughter Mrs. Trudet (Pearl O'Dema Thomas) Tomlinson, Elmore City; three sons Sgt. U.Q. (Uriel Quillon)Thomas, stationed in Japan; Paul E. Thomas, with the U.S. navey, stationed in Washington,D.C., and Glenn V. Thomas, Elmore City; his mother Mrs. Lewis Wallace(Denzetta Shaw) Thomas, Dodge City, Kan.; four sisters; Mrs. A.A.(Cora May) Parker, Dodge City; Mrs. H.A. (Luella Pearl) Carter, Lakeside, Calif.; Mrs. B.D.Hazel Samyra) Baker, Parker, Ariz.; and Mrs. R.M. (Armenta Maude-aka-Minnie Fay) Rowan, Hollywood, Fla.; three brothers Ed (Edward Poe) Thomas, Emmett, Idaho; C.A.(Charles Allen) Thomas, Ola, Ark., and W.O.(William Orley) Thomas, Portland, Ore., and 11 grandchildren.

Mrs. Thomas died Friday in the Wynnewood hospital, She had been a resident of Elmore City for 21 years. Burial was in the Elmore City cemetery under the direction of Yeary-Vaughn Funeral home.
Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. T.T. Tomlinson; three sons; Uriel Q. Thomas, U.S. Army; Paul E. Thomas, Navy; Glenn V. Thomas, U.S. army; one brother, Jesse V. Brown and three sisters, Mrs. Fred Chastain, Mrs. Guy Bryan, and Mrs, Mamie Patielo; 12 grandchildren.

TOMLINSON Rites Held In Texas
Services were held in Tahoka, Texas Wednesday, October 3, for John Lee Tomlinson, former Garvin county resident.
Tomlinson died at the age of 78 Tuesday, October 2. He was the father of Mrs. Ethyl Park, of Elmore City, and Mrs. Lucille Kinslow of Pauls Valley.
Tomlinosn lived in Garvin county for over 35 years, having moved to Tahoka for the last time in 1944.
Other survivors include his wife, of Tahoka; four other daughters - Mrs. Flora Kelsey, Oklahoma; Mrs. Mary Ellen Blankenship, and Mrs. Nora Lee Snow, both of Texas; and Mrs. Letha Cooper. Six sons- Grover, Jim, Roy, and Gene, all of Texas; and Cruce and J.L. , Oklahoma

"Trig" TOMLINSON Of Elmore City Dies
W.T. (William Trig) "Trig" Tomlinson, 49, of Elmore City dies at his home following a heart seizure.
Tomlinson was born and reared in the Elmore City community. Tomlinson was a member of the Masonic lodge and Eastern Star.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the East Side Missionary Baptist church in Elmore City with Rev. N.D. Carter, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. Howard Moore of Katie.
Burial was in Elmore City cemetery under the direction of Vaughn Funreal Home.
Tomlinson is survived by his wife Anna; two sons, Billy Ray and Geary, both of the home; two daughters, Judith of the home and Mrs. (Curtis Hayes) Phillis Hays of Lindsay; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.L. (William Leighton & fannie Frances Williams) Tomlinson, route three, Elmore City; one brother, T.T. (Trudet) Tomlinson, route three, Elmore City; and one grandchild.

Vergil NESMITH Taken By Death
Vergil NESMITH, 90, resident of the Elmore City area since 1912, died at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday at Elmore City.
NESMITH died after suffering a stroke.
He was a retired farmer. NESMITH came to Love County in Oklahoma in 1908 and moved to the Elmore City area in 1912. He came to Oklahoma from Texas. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church.
Funeral Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist church of Elmore City with Rev. Jerry Newman of Duncan officiating. Burial will be in the Elmore City Cemetery under the direction of Vaughn Funeral Home of Elmore City.

Funeral services for Dr. William Herod GOLDSBURY , 84, a practicing dentist in Pauls Valley for 42 years, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Stufflebean Funeral Home chapel. Rev. Bob Sunderland of the Trinity Baptist Church will offiate. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Dr. GOLDSBURY died of a heart attact at his home Tuesday morning. He was born May 1, 1878 in Lawson, Mo. He graduated from Central State College at Edmond and taught school several years in Major County. He graduated from the Kansas City Dental College in 1908. He and Sarah Louise HOUGHTON of Kansas City, Mo., were married Jan 1, 1909.
Dr. GOLDSBURY began dental practice at Mutual, Okla. in 1909. He also practiced at Vici, carrying his instruments back and forth with him. He moved to Pauls Valley in 1919. He opened his office here over what is now Crabtree Drug Store #1. Later he moved his office above the Pauls Valley Building and Loan Association. Then he moved above the First National Bank where he remained until he retired in September, 1961.
He served as dentist for the Pauls Valley State Training School for Boys, which is now the Pauls Valley State School.
He joined the Baptist Church. Dr. Goldsbury was a member of the Oklahoma Dental Society. On his 50th Anniversary of practice, the Kansas City Dental College honored him by giving him a life membership in the Dental Century Club of the United States. He was also a charter member of the local Elks Lodge, a Mason and a charter member of the Pauls Valley Kiwanis Club.
Among his many friends over the county and state, he was known for his generosity to others, given in a quiet way.
Survivors include his wife, one son, Albert William of Altus, two grandchildren, Katie Louise GOLDSBURY Horn, and William Albert Goldsbury. One great grandson, William Ken Horn: two brothers , Albert of El Paso, Texas and Hugh of Bellflower, Calif., and three sisters, Mrs Laura Morehouse of Cameron, Mo. Mrs Dora Bain and Mrs. Maud Butler of Bellflower, Calif.

W.L. (William Layton) TOMLINSON, 85, a resident of the Elmore City community since 1904, died in the Colonial Rest Home in Pauls Valley.
He was born July 24, 1880 in Texas. He was a farmer and stockman and retired in 1946. TOMLINSON was a member of the First Baptist church in Elmore City.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Elmore City First Baptist Church, Rev. Stanley Daniel will officiate, assisted by Rev. B.T. Neal. Burial will be in the Elmore City Cemetery under the direction of Vaugn Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held Saturday in the Sweet Street Baptist church in Tahoka, Texas for Mrs. Nora Annie (Wells)Tomlinson, 81, of Tahoka, Texas, a former Garvin county resident. She was the mother of Mrs. Lucile Kinslow of Pauls Valley and Mrs. Ethyl Park of Elmore City. She died at 4:30 p.m. Thursday(March 24, 1966) in the Tahoka hospital.
She married John Lee Tomlinson, Feb. 18, 1899 in Holliday, Texas. They were residents of Garvin county until 1939 and moved to Durant where they lived until 1944. They moved from Durant to Lynn county, Texas. Rev. Shelby Bishop, pastor, and Rev. Clifton Igo of Lamesa officiated.
Burial was in the Tahoka cemetery under direction of the White Funeral Home in Tahoka.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Kinslow, Mrs. Park, Mrs. Flora Kelsay of Durant, Mrs. Mary Ellen Blankenship of Galveston, Texas, Mrs. Nora Lee Snow of Terryton, Texas; six sons; Grover B. and Jim Tomlinson of Tahoka, Eugene Tomlinson of Abernathy, Texas, Cruce Tomlinson of Big Springs, Texas, J.L. Joe Lee Kinslow of Pauls Valley served as one of the 11 pallbearers who were all grandsons.

Grover B. TOMLINSON, 65, aformer Garvin county resident, died Saturda in Tahoka, Texas, after a brief illness.
He was the brother of Mrs. Lucille Kinslow, Pauls Valley. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Baptist church of Tahoka.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie (Bishop) Tomlinson, of the home; six children; five brothers, Jim and Cruce Tomlinson, both of Tahoka, Texas, Roy Tomlinson, La Mesa, Texas, J.L. of Midland, Texas, and Eugene, of Abernathy, Texas; as well as four sisters, Flora Kelsay, Durant, Mary Elllen Blankenship, La Marque, Texas, Lucille Kinslow, Pauls Valley, and Nora Lee Snow, Perryton, Texas.

Mrs. Celia NESMITH, 78, of Elmore City, died Thursday in the N.H. Lindsey Memorial Hospital in Pauls Valley. She was born April 19, 1891.
Mrs. NESMITH came to Garvin County before statehood and had lived in and around Elmore City many years.

MARTIN OSLEGER,60, a Pauls Valley policeman for 15 years, died Saturday, Feb 21, 1976 in Pauls Valley General Hospital. Services were today (Tuesday) at 2:30 p.m. in Stufflebean Funeral Home, Pauls Valley, with Rev. Maurice Stiles officiating. Osleger was born Sept. 1, 1915 in Pennsylvania.

Former County Sheriff Dies
Former Garvin County Sheriff Clark CAVES, 67, died Tuesday,  Dec.5 in the Pauls Valley General Hospital.
Funeral services will be Thursday Dec 7 at 2pm in the  Stufflebean Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery.
A resident of Pauls Valley, Caves was born Feb 11, 1911 in Oklahoma. He served three terms as the sheriff for Garvin County and 10 years as a deputy sheriff.
He was a member of the Anerican Legion and 100F. Caves was also a Mason and a veteran of World War II.
He had lived in Pauls Valley for the past 31 years.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Zella Caves, Pauls Valley; six sons, H.A. Caves, Norman, Clint Caves, Robert Lee, Tex., Jimmy Caves Oklahoma City, Phillip, Terry and Joe Caves, all of Pauls Valley; one brother, Paul Caves, Stigler; six grandchildren.

Johnson was born December 30, 1964 in Pauls Valley (OK) and died July 4, 1993 in Pauls Valley.
He attended school in Elmore City and graduated in 1983. Johnson was awarded Most Valuable Player in football and was voted Senior Class Favorite and Class Personality. He was a member of the FFA.

ELMORE CITY (Ok) MAN DROWNS IN POWN NEAR WYNNEWOOD (Ok)

The drowning of an Elmore City man Sunday morning in a pond east of Wynnewood had been ruled accidental by the Garvin County Sheriff's Department.
Gregory Clay Johnson, 28, white male, was reportedly swimming with some relatives and friends in the pond at approximately 2:30 a.m. July 4. The sheriff's report indicates Johnson dove into the water that was about waist deep. After being under about 10 to 15 minutes, Johnson's body surfaced. A couple of the people that was with him pulled him from the pond, attempting CPR. Others went for help, the report indicated.
Wynnewood police officer Keith Phillips arrived on the scene where he attempted CPR. Also, the Wynnewood Fire Rescue was on the scene, assisting the Garvin Co. Sheriff's Department. Johnson was transported to the Pauls Valley General Hospital by Wynnewood EMT's where he was pronounced dead. According to the sheriff's report, Johnson had an abrasion on the back of his head.
"This is not the first person that has drown in this same pond," Sheriff Bob Davis said. "There was one previous drowning and one close call, and both occurred approximately the same location in the pond." "We urge young people to refrain from swimming in this pond or any other unsupervised areas," the sheriff said.

Funeral services for Meaders Jones, 92, Pauls Valley, will be conducted Tuesday in the First United Methodist Church in Pauls Valley, Rev. Paul Hamilton will officiate. Interment will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.
Jones was born Feb. 14, 1904 in Ada, Indian Territory to Wilmer Britton Jones and Mary Maude (MEADERS) Jones. He died Friday June 21 in Oklahoma City.
On April 11, 1936 Jones married Catherine Mae REED in Pauls Valley, which he made as his permanent home. Of this union were born two sons, David Michael Jones and Robert Meaders Jones. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Pauls Valley.
Meaders graduated from Ada High School and received his degree from East Central University. Among his many accomplishments in life, Johnes was a member of the Pauls Valley Airport Board, which created the Pauls Valley Municipal Golf Course; a charter member of the BPOE Lodge No 1874; and a member of the Pauls Valley Kiwanis Club, serving as its president and other offices. He also was a honorary State Junior Master Farmer in recognition of his organization of the Pauls Valley FFA chapter; a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 65 years holding various offices; chairman of the Pauls Valley branch of the American National Red Crosss; and chairman of the local March of Dimes. Also, Jones was a leader of the Pauls Valley P.T.A.; a member of the Society of the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America; and founding Cubmaster of the Methodist Cub Scout pack in Pauls Valley. He was an avid golfer, member of the National Association of Lefthanded Golfers, and active in the Oklahoma and National Senior Golf Associations.
Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, David and Wilma (Tomlinson), and Bob and Ann Jones; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren.
Jones was preceded in death by his paarents; wife Catherine in 1983; brother, Ben Ware Jones, and first great grandaughtr, Lucy Jones.

Martha Anna TOMLINSON
Graveside services for Martha Anna TOMLINSON, age 85, of Elmore City, were held Monday, November 4, 1996 at 10 a.m. in the Elmore City Cemetery with Rev. Bruce McCray officiating. Interment was in the Elmore City Cemetery under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.
Martha Anna TOMLINSON was born on July 16, 1911 to Virgil and Celia Smith NESMITH in Olustee, Okla. She passed away on Friday, November 1, 1996. Mrs. TOMLINSON was a life-long resident of Elmore City. She was a devoted homemaker and mother.
She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church and is remembered by her friends and family as a person of very strong moral character.
Mrs. TOMLINSON is survived by: two sons, Billy R. of OK; Geary M. of OK; two daughters, Phyllis of OK; and Judith J. of OK; one brother, Leo of OK; two sisters, Jane of OK; and Gladys of OK; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, William Trig TOMLINSON in 1959.

Venita June Clement Chandler was born January 5, 1944 in Lancaster, Calif. to Cecil and Lora (Tomlinson) Clement and passed from this life on March 10, 1997 at the Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 53 years, 2 months and 5 days.
June came to Wynnewood at the age of 5 and continued making Wynnewood her home her entire life. She graduated from Wynnewood High Schol in 1961. In September 1963, she married George Henry Chandler.
She is survived by her husband, George Henry Chandler, of the home in Wynnewood; one daughter, Mitzi Whitaker;  and one grandson; one son, Trey (George Henry III) Chandler, of the home; and two sisters, Verda Jean Murphy and Veda Joyce (Judy) Clement.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, Rusty Whitaker; one sister, Vera Jo (Mrs. Pryor Dale) Garvin; and her parents.
Funeral services are Wednesday, March 12, 1997 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Wynnewood with Bro. Jerry Wells officiating. Interment will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery with the DeArman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers are: Mike Armstrong, Roger Musgrove, Cleteus Dixon, Floyd Lesley Carter, Hal Jolly and Gayland Garrett.

Ralph Sidney Johnson, age 62, of Elmore City, entered this life on Oct. 9, 1934, born to Bonnie B. and Roxie Fowler Johnson in Foster, Okla. and departed this life on Aug. 9, 1997, at his residence in Elmore City.
Ralph is survived by one daughter, Stacy; one brother, Reford; two sisters, Oteka and Ruth; one aunt, Cora ; and three grandgchildren.
Ralph was a lifetime resident of Garvin County. He grew up in Foster and Elmore City.
Ralph was preceded in death by his son, Greg Johnson, in 1993; his parents, B.B. and Roxie Johnson; as well as five brothers; Glen Johnson, Leonard Johnson, Randell Johnson, (twins) Jerry Johnson and Terry Johnson.
Graveside funeral services were held Aug. 11, 1997, in the Foster Cemetery with Rev. Bruce McCray officiating. Interment was in the Foster Cemetery under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.

Beatrice DAVIS CLARK FERGUSON
Services for Beatrice Clark Ferguson, age 90, of Pauls Valley, were held April 28, 1998, at the Stufflebean Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean Funeral Home.
Beatrice Clark Ferguson passed away Sunday, April 26, 1998, in Pauls Valley.
She was born April 6, 1908, in Pauls Valley to Joe and Sally (MALICOAT) DAVIS.
The Pauls Valley and Foster areas have been her home all of her life. Beatrice was married to I.L. "Shorty" Clark, who proceeded her in death June 10, 1960.
In 1971, Beatrice and Thell Ferguson were married in the Christian Life Pentecostal Holiness Church in Pauls Valley, where she had been attending for many years. Shortly afterward, they moved to Foster where they made their home for 20 years. There they attended the Mt. View Full Gospel Church.
Thell Ferguson proceeded her in death in January 1990. Soon after the loss of Mr. Ferguson she returned to Pauls Valley.
She was also proceeded in death by her parents, Joe and Sally Davis; one son , Bill Clark; two grandchildren, three brothers and five sisters.

TOMLINSON BLANKENSHIP
Mary Ellen Blankenship, 85, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998 in Texas City, Texas. Services were held Jan. 2 in Galveston, Texas under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston.
She was born July 10, 1913 in Pauls Valley to John Lee and Nora Wells Tomlinson. After graduation from high school she earned her teaching certificate and retired from teaching in the Galveston public school system. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Galveston for the past 55 years and taught Sunday School in every age level. She played the piano for Sunday School assemblies and loved music of all kinds. She was a dedicated member of the choir for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard Blankenship; daughter, Sue Sexton; and grandson, Bobby Blankenship.
Mrs. Blankenship is survived by her daughters; Fuchsia Elliott of TX, and Martha Spencer of S.C. ; son, Jack Blankenship of TX; sister Lucile Kinslow of OK; four granddaughters; three grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives including a niece from Maysville.
