Wife Asks $30,000 For Death Of Husband
A suit to obtain $30,000 damages was filed in district court here Tuesday
by Mrs. Flora REED against the Montezuma Mining Company, as the result
of an accident in the concentration plant near Cardin December 17, 1922,
which is alleged to have caused the death of James S. REED, husband
of the plaintiff. According to the petition, Mrs. REED charges that
her husband was caught by an unguarded line shaft and pully in the Montezuma
mill and thrown to the floor with such force as to inflict injuries which
caused his death a week later. Mrs. REED states in the petition
that her husband was the sole support of herself and three minor children.
Submitter's Note:These are my great-great grandparents. I have the
court papers with Flora settling out of court in the amount of $3,500.00.
Two of the minor children, I can not find out anything on. Names were Chelora
and Ruth. Chelora was born in 1914 and Ruth was born in 1911.

Submitter's Note -
I took some liberties to make some corrections in
the SMITH articles.
William M Smith was taken to Butler, MO for interment by my Aunt Emma SMITH-MIENEN
and by my mother Mary Jane SMITH-JOHNSTON. This was over 50 years ago; and, she
has no memory of the cemetery (there are over 40 in the Bates County).
My Aunt Emma passed away in 1961 and is said to buried at (I just found out)
Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler, MO; but, there is no record of William M Smith or
their obituaries. Emma SMITH-MIENEN may have four daughters; Mrs. Dale CAMPBELL,
Mrs. M. J. FENNEY (spelling not clear), Clarence OVERMAN, and Mrs. Carl Wallace.
I would love to hear from anyone looking for a SMITH-PRICE-HUFFORD-JOHNSTON-WEAVER-HUCKABEE-BAGSBY
connection.
